Why February is so popular
February combines three things that rarely line up: a generous number of auspicious dates, the best weather of the year across most of North, Central, West and South India, and no major pause in the calendar. It sits between the end of the Kharmas pause in mid-January and the next one in mid-March. For many families it is the first choice, and the best venues in Udaipur, Jaipur, Goa, Delhi and Mumbai are booked for February weekends a year or more ahead.
Vasant Panchami, 11 February 2027
Vasant Panchami, the festival of spring and of Saraswati, falls on Thursday 11 February 2027. Many families regard it as an abhujh day, auspicious enough for a wedding without a separate muhurat calculation, and in 2027 it is also a listed date in its own right, with a long window from 7:03 am to 11:30 pm under the Revati nakshatra. Expect it to be one of the busiest days of the season, especially in North India. Our abhujh muhurat guide explains why these days are popular, and why that popularity is itself a planning problem.
The February weekends
- Sunday 14 February, Valentine’s Day, with a window from 4:46 am on the 14th to 7:00 am on the 15th under Rohini. Expect very high demand.
- Sunday 21 February, a short midday window, 11:27 am to 1:50 pm, suited to a daytime ceremony.
- Friday 26 February, a morning window until 10:13 am.
- Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 February, a window from 10:08 pm on Saturday to 1:47 pm on Sunday under Anuradha, which suits a Saturday night ceremony.
The weekday pairs, 2 to 3, 9 to 10 and 22 to 23 February, offer long windows and better availability for families hosting mainly local guests.
Weather and where to marry in February
February is close to ideal almost everywhere: cool mornings and evenings in the north, warm sunny days in Rajasthan and Gujarat, dry and pleasant weather in Goa, Kerala and the rest of the south. Outdoor ceremonies, lawns, palace courtyards and beaches all work. Late February begins to warm in Central and South India, so midday events there benefit from shade. Our guide to the best wedding season compares the months, and our Jaipur and Udaipur cost guides cover two of February’s most popular destinations.
Ramadan and mixed guest lists
Ramadan in 2027 is expected to begin around the second week of February, depending on the sighting of the moon, and to run into early March. For families with Muslim relatives, friends or colleagues on the guest list, a February or early-March wedding falls during the month of fasting. Thoughtful hosts plan for it: an iftar-timed snack and drinks counter at sunset, a quiet space for prayer, and no expectation that fasting guests will eat at the regular dinner time.
School and board exams
Board examinations for school students usually begin in February and run into March. For families with children in classes 10 and 12, a February wedding can clash with exam preparation, and some relatives may not be able to travel. It is worth checking with the extended family before fixing a date late in the month.
Guests and rooms in February
February is also a peak month for tourism, so wedding guests compete with holidaymakers for rooms in Udaipur, Jaipur, Goa, Kerala and the big cities. Block rooms early, agree the rates in writing, and set a release date for unused rooms that gives you time to adjust. For destination weddings, consider taking the whole of a smaller property rather than part of a large one, so that guests are together and the hotel is not also serving other groups. Our outstation guest planning guide covers room blocks and transport.
Morning, evening or night in February
February’s comfortable weather makes every time of day possible. Morning ceremonies on 3, 10 or 15 February suit families who want the rituals in daylight and a lunch to follow. The long windows on 11 and 22 to 23 February allow an afternoon ceremony with an evening reception. The night windows, such as 2 into 3 or 27 into 28 February, suit traditional night pheras, which in February are cool but rarely cold enough to need heavy heating outside the far north.
Demand and pricing
February is peak season, and prices reflect it. Venues quote their highest rates for February weekends, minimum guarantees are higher, and popular vendors may be committed to several events in a single week. The weekday dates and the less obvious weekends, such as 21 February with its short daytime window, offer the most room to negotiate. Our booking lead time guide shows how far ahead to book for a peak month.

Regional calendars differ
This list follows the North Indian calendar for New Delhi. South Indian families take their dates from the Tamil, Telugu, Kannada or Malayalam panchangam, Bengali families from the panjika, and every family from its own priest. In February the regional calendars often agree on good wedding weeks, but not always on the same days. Our muhurtham guide explains the southern approach.
Before you fix a February date
- Confirm the date and time with the pandit from the horoscopes.
- Book the venue and the pandit together, as early as possible.
- Check the guest list for Ramadan and for school exams.
- For Vasant Panchami or Valentine’s Day, assume extreme demand.
Our wedding muhurat dates 2026 to 2027 guide lists the full season.
