May 2027 has eighteen auspicious Hindu marriage dates by the Drik Panchang calendar for New Delhi, more than any other month of the year. They include Akshaya Tritiya on Sunday 9 May, a traditional abhujh day that is also a listed date. School holidays make travel easy for families, but North India’s heat is at its peak. Evening ceremonies, air-conditioned venues and hill stations are the popular answers. Your family priest decides.

Why May has so many dates
May falls in the middle of the long run of auspicious months between the spring Kharmas pause, which ends in mid-April, and Chaturmas, which begins in mid-July. With no pause inside it and a favourable sequence of nakshatras, May 2027 has eighteen listed dates, the most of any month in the year. For families who are flexible about the heat, that means real choice.
Akshaya Tritiya, 9 May 2027
Akshaya Tritiya, which falls on Sunday 9 May 2027, is one of the most important abhujh days of the year: many families regard it as auspicious for a wedding without a separate muhurat, and it is also a listed date with a long window from 5:35 am to 7:42 pm under Mrigashira. It is a day for buying gold, starting new ventures and marrying, and in parts of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat it has traditionally been a day for many weddings at once. Expect very high demand for venues, pandits and vendors. Our abhujh muhurat guide explains the tradition.
The May weekends
May 2027 has an unusual number of weekend options:
- Friday 7 May, a night window from 11:42 pm into Saturday morning.
- Sunday 9 May, Akshaya Tritiya, a day window.
- Friday 14 May, a short morning window until 8:50 am.
- Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 May, a window from noon on Saturday into Sunday morning, then the early hours of Sunday into Monday.
- Friday 21 May, a morning and afternoon window until 2:51 pm.
- Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 May, a night window from 11:27 pm on Saturday to 7:41 am on Sunday.
- Sunday 30 May, a day window from 11:32 am to 9:54 pm.
The heat
May is the hottest month of the year across North and Central India. Daytime temperatures in Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh regularly exceed 40°C, and the hot, dry loo wind can blow through the afternoon. Outdoor daytime events are a health risk, especially for the elderly. The May windows help: many run through the night or begin at dawn, and the night ceremony is the traditional answer to summer weddings in the north. Plan air-conditioned venues, evening and night events, shaded transport and constant water. Our summer wedding guide covers this in detail.
Night ceremonies in May
The May calendar is generous with night windows: 7 into 8, 13 into 14, 15 into 16, 18 into 19, 20 into 21, 22 into 23 and 24 into 25 May all allow the pheras after dark. In the north, the night ceremony is the sensible default in May. A good shape for the day is a short morning ritual for the family indoors, rest through the afternoon, a reception from about 7:30 pm, dinner by 9:30 pm, and the pheras late at night when the air has cooled, with the closest family only. Guests who leave after dinner miss nothing they came for, and nobody faints in the sun.
Where to marry in May
May is the peak season for the hill stations: Shimla, Manali, Mussoorie, Nainital, Darjeeling, Ooty, Kodaikanal and Munnar are all comfortable and all busy with summer tourists, so rooms are expensive and must be booked early. Our hill-station wedding venues guide and Manali wedding cost guide cover the options. Rajasthan’s palace hotels and the big cities are in their off-season, and their summer rates can be significantly lower than winter, which makes an indoor May wedding in the city good value.
School holidays and travel
Schools across most of India close for summer holidays in May and June, which makes May one of the easiest months for families with children to travel and attend a wedding over several days. NRI families with children often prefer it for the same reason. Flights and trains are busy with holiday travel, so book guests’ tickets early.
Demand and pricing
Demand in May is uneven. Akshaya Tritiya and the night-window weekends are heavily booked, while weekday dates and city venues in the heat are among the best values of the year. Hill-station resorts are at their most expensive. Our off-season wedding guide explains how to use city summer rates.
A countdown for a May 2027 wedding

Power, cooling and food safety
May puts the most strain on a venue’s air conditioning, generators and kitchen. Ask the venue about back-up power for the air conditioning, not just the lights, and about the capacity of the cooling in the main hall for your guest count. Ask the caterer how they will hold dishes at safe temperatures in the heat, and prefer live counters and freshly cooked items to food left standing. Summer fruit, especially mangoes, makes May menus a pleasure.
Regional calendars differ
This list follows the North Indian calendar for New Delhi. South Indian, Bengali and other regional calendars set their own dates; in many South Indian families the months of Chithirai and Vaikasi, which overlap April to June, are popular for weddings. The family priest decides. Our muhurtham guide explains the southern approach.
