December 2027 has seven auspicious Hindu marriage dates by the Drik Panchang calendar for New Delhi, all between 2 and 14 December. Only one, Sunday 12 December, falls on a weekend, and its window is an evening one from 4:41 pm to 11:54 pm. After 14 December the winter Kharmas begins and the next date is 15 January 2028. Your family priest confirms the final date and time.
Shubh vivah muhurat dates in December 2027
These are all the December 2027 dates published by Drik Panchang for New Delhi. The windows describe when the panchang conditions are met; your pandit narrows them to an exact muhurat using the couple’s horoscopes and the lagna. Other cities differ by a few minutes.
| Date | Muhurat window (New Delhi) | Nakshatra | Tithi |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 December 2027 (Thu) | 1:43 pm to 2:29 am (3 Dec) | Uttara Ashadha | Panchami |
| 7 December 2027 (Tue) | 2:14 pm to 6:57 am (8 Dec) | Uttara Bhadrapada | Navami, Dashami |
| 8 December 2027 (Wed) | 6:35 am to 7:02 am (9 Dec) | Revati | Ekadashi |
| 9 December 2027 (Thu) | 7:02 am to 11:08 am | Revati | Ekadashi |
| 12 December 2027 (Sun) | 4:41 pm to 11:54 pm | Rohini | Chaturdashi |
| 13 December 2027 (Mon) | 10:49 am to 7:05 am (14 Dec) | Rohini, Mrigashira | Purnima, Pratipada |
| 14 December 2027 (Tue) | 7:05 am to 1:24 pm | Mrigashira | Pratipada |
A weekday month
The striking thing about December 2027 is the calendar. Of the seven dates, six fall on a weekday: Thursday 2, Tuesday 7, Wednesday 8, Thursday 9, Monday 13 and Tuesday 14 December. Sunday 12 December is the only weekend date, and it has an evening window only. Families who need a Saturday will not find one this month, and the 12th will be heavily contested by everyone who does.
For a multi-day wedding this matters less than it seems. If the mehendi and sangeet fall on the weekend and the pheras on a Monday or Tuesday, guests take two days off rather than five. Monday 13 December is the strongest example: its window runs from 10:49 am into the morning of Tuesday 14th under Rohini and Mrigashira, so a Saturday sangeet, a Sunday mehendi and a Monday wedding is a natural shape.
The cut-off on 14 December
The last listed date is Tuesday 14 December, with a window that ends at 1:24 pm. After that the sun enters Sagittarius and the month of Kharmas (also called Dhanu or Malmas) begins, during which most North Indian families hold no weddings. Drik Panchang lists no further dates until Saturday 15 January 2028. Our Kharmas guide explains the rule. In practice this means the popular Christmas and New Year week has no listed dates at all in 2027.
Reading the December windows
- Thursday 2 December: from 1:43 pm into the early hours of Friday, under Uttara Ashadha. An evening or night ceremony.
- Tuesday 7 into Wednesday 8 December: an afternoon start at 2:14 pm running through the night under Uttara Bhadrapada.
- Wednesday 8 and Thursday 9 December: Revati, with a window that runs almost a full day from 6:35 am on the 8th and continues until 11:08 am on the 9th.
- Sunday 12 December: Rohini, 4:41 pm to 11:54 pm.
- Monday 13 into Tuesday 14 December: the longest window of the month, under Rohini and Mrigashira.
Night ceremonies are common in December in the north, but the temperature after midnight in Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan can drop to single digits. Plan heaters near the mandap, an indoor fallback and transport for elderly guests.
Fog and travel
Dense fog over the northern plains in December and January regularly delays flights and trains into Delhi, Lucknow, Chandigarh, Amritsar and the surrounding airports, usually in the early morning. For a December wedding with outstation guests, book arrivals a day earlier than you otherwise would, avoid tight connections, and keep the first event of the wedding in the evening. Our outstation guest planning guide covers room blocks and transfers.
NRI families and December
December is the month when many NRI families take their longest leave, but in 2027 the auspicious dates end before the Christmas holidays begin. Families from the United States, the United Kingdom and Europe who can only travel from around 20 December have two choices: a date in the first fortnight of December with longer leave, or the first dates of January 2028, which begin on 15 January. Our best time for an NRI wedding guide sets out the trade-offs.
Where to marry in December
December is peak season almost everywhere. Rajasthan, Goa, Kerala’s backwaters and beaches, and the Gujarat coast are all at their best and their most expensive; the hill stations are cold and some higher roads can close with snow. Our winter wedding ideas cover decor and outfits for the cold, and the best wedding season guide compares regions month by month.
Pricing in December
Hotel rates in December are among the highest of the year, and the week from Christmas to New Year is the most expensive of all. In 2027, though, the wedding dates end on the 14th, so the most expensive holiday week will be full of holidaymakers rather than wedding parties. A wedding on the weekdays of the first fortnight may find better room rates than the same hotel quotes for the last fortnight.
A countdown for an early-December 2027 wedding
| When | What to lock in |
|---|---|
| By March 2027 | Date with the pandit, the venue, especially for Sunday 12 or Monday 13 December |
| By May 2027 | Planner, photographer, decorator, caterer |
| By July 2027 | Room block, guest flights from abroad, makeup and mehendi artists |
| By September 2027 | Outfits ordered, invitations designed |
| October 2027 | Invitations sent, before the Diwali rush on 29 October |
| November 2027 | Final fittings, jewellery, run sheet and vendor confirmations |
Three ways to plan around the weekday dates
Because only one December 2027 date falls on a weekend, most families will need to shape the wedding around a weekday. Three patterns work well:
- Weekend functions, weekday wedding. Hold the mehendi, haldi and sangeet on Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 December and the pheras on Monday 13 December, whose window runs from 10:49 am into Tuesday morning. Guests take one or two days off, not a whole week.
- A destination wedding across the week. At a palace hotel or a beach resort, guests are on holiday anyway and the day of the week matters little. Wednesday 8 and Thursday 9 December, with Revati windows on both, suit a three-night destination format from Tuesday to Friday.
- A small weekday ceremony and a weekend reception. Some families hold the religious ceremony with close family on a weekday date, Thursday 2 December or Tuesday 7 December for example, and a larger reception on the following weekend, which does not need a muhurat.
Food and decor for a December wedding
December menus can be richer than at any other time of year: winter vegetables such as sarson, fresh peas and carrots are in season in the north, and hot counters for soups, gajar halwa and jalebi with rabri go down well at a late-night function. Keep the outdoor buffet short of the open lawn after dark, or provide patio heaters along it, because food cools quickly in the cold. For decor, warm lighting, velvet, marigold and deep reds and golds suit the season, and fire pits or braziers on a lawn double as decor and heating. Check the venue’s rules on open flames first.
If you miss December
The next dates are in January 2028, beginning on Saturday 15 January, followed by fourteen dates in February 2028, including Tuesday 29 February. See our 2028 marriage dates page for the whole year.
Regional calendars differ
These are North Indian panchang dates for New Delhi. South Indian muhurtham lists, the Bengali panjika and other regional calendars differ; Margazhi, the Tamil month that runs from mid-December to mid-January, is a month many Tamil families avoid for weddings. Confirm with your own priest.
