April 2027 has nine auspicious Hindu marriage dates by the Drik Panchang calendar for New Delhi: 18, 19, 21, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27 and 28 April. All fall in the last two weeks, after the mid-March to mid-April Kharmas pause. The weekend options are Sunday 18, Friday 23, Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 April. Rising heat makes evening and hill-station weddings the popular choice. Your family priest decides.

Why the dates start on 18 April

From mid-March to mid-April the sun is in Pisces and the calendar is in Kharmas, when most North Indian families do not hold weddings. The pause ends when the sun enters Aries, Mesha Sankranti, around the middle of April, the moment many regions celebrate as the solar new year: Baisakhi in Punjab, Vishu in Kerala, Puthandu in Tamil Nadu and Pohela Boishakh in Bengal. The first listed wedding date after the pause is Sunday 18 April. Gudi Padwa and Ugadi, the lunar new year in Maharashtra and the Telugu and Kannada states, fall earlier, on 7 April 2027, during the pause.

Reading the April windows

  • Sunday 18 April has a long day window, 6:05 am to 9:58 pm, under Uttara Phalguni. It is the most flexible weekend date of the month and the first date after the pause, so expect demand.
  • 19 and 21 April are night windows, suited to a traditional night ceremony.
  • Friday 23 April has a short afternoon window, 2:13 pm to 3:53 pm.
  • Saturday 24 April has a very short dawn window, 5:47 am to 6:56 am.
  • Sunday 25 April runs from 3:35 pm into Monday morning under Mula, giving an evening or night ceremony.
  • 27 and 28 April run from Tuesday night to Wednesday evening under Uttara Ashadha.

The heat

By late April, daytime temperatures in Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and much of Central India often approach 40°C. Outdoor daytime events are uncomfortable and can be unsafe for elderly guests. The practical answers are evening and night ceremonies, which the April windows allow, indoor and air-conditioned venues, shaded and misted outdoor spaces, plenty of water, and lighter menus. Our summer wedding guide covers how to plan for the heat in detail.

Where to marry in late April

Late April is the start of the hill-station season. Mussoorie, Shimla, Nainital, Ooty, Kodaikanal and Munnar are pleasant, and their resorts begin to fill with holiday travellers. Our hill-station wedding venues guide compares them. Goa and the beaches are hot and humid and in their off-season, which brings lower prices but heavier heat. City weddings move indoors.

Night ceremonies in late April

Night windows are the April wedding’s best friend. 19 into 20 April, 21 into 22 April, 25 into 26 April and 27 into 28 April all allow the pheras after dark, when temperatures fall. A plan that works well: a sundowner or reception from about 7 pm, dinner served by 9 pm, and the ceremony in the late night or early morning with the immediate family, in a space with fans or coolers and plenty of water.

Guests and rooms in April

Late April brings the first summer holidays and the start of hill-station tourism, so rooms in Mussoorie, Shimla, Nainital and Ooty become harder to find from the last week of April. In the cities and in Rajasthan, rooms are easier to secure and often cheaper than in winter. For guests, the key requirement is air conditioning everywhere, including transport between venues. Our outstation guest planning guide covers room blocks and transport.

Baisakhi, Vishu and the solar new year

The end of Kharmas in mid-April coincides with the solar new year in much of India: Baisakhi in Punjab, Vishu in Kerala, Puthandu in Tamil Nadu, Bohag Bihu in Assam and Pohela Boishakh in Bengal. Families from these regions have their own celebrations that week, and some like to hold an engagement or a roka at the new year and the wedding a few days later, in the first auspicious window. Others prefer to keep the festival and the wedding apart. Ask the family elders.

Demand and pricing

April is shoulder season. Demand for 18 April and 25 April will be high, because they are the first weekends after a month-long pause, but city venues and Rajasthan’s palace hotels generally offer better rates than in winter, reflecting the heat. Hill-station resorts move in the other direction, with rates rising as the tourist season begins. Ask venues for their summer rates and compare them with winter quotes. Our off-season wedding guide explains how to use the savings.

Health and comfort for guests

Heat is a real health risk for elderly guests and young children at an April wedding in the plains. Keep water and oral rehydration drinks freely available, provide shade and seating at every outdoor point, avoid long processions in the afternoon sun, and make sure a doctor or first-aid kit is on hand at a large event. A baraat timed for the evening, not the afternoon, is kinder to everyone, including the horse.

Destination ideas for a late-April date

For couples who want a destination wedding in late April, the hills are the natural choice: Mussoorie and Rishikesh in Uttarakhand, Shimla and its surroundings in Himachal, and the Nilgiris and Kodaikanal in the south. Rishikesh and the Ganga valley are warm but greener and cooler in the evenings than the plains. Coorg and Munnar offer misty plantation settings before the monsoon. Kerala’s backwaters are hot and humid. Our Shimla and Coorg cost guides cover two popular options.

Outfits and the menu for an April wedding

Heavy lehengas and sherwanis are hard work in late April heat. Many brides choose lighter fabrics such as georgette, organza or fine silk for the daytime events and keep the heavy outfit for an evening ceremony in an air-conditioned space. Menus shift to lighter food, chilled drinks, fruit and live counters that do not leave dishes standing in the heat. Food safety matters more than usual: ask the caterer how they will keep dishes at safe temperatures.

Regional calendars differ

April is the solar new year in much of India, and regional calendars reset around it. South Indian, Bengali, Assamese and Punjabi families may have their own preferred dates in April and May. The family priest decides. Our muhurtham guide explains the southern approach.
