What a sangeet night actually costs in 2026

A sangeet is the only function in an Indian wedding where you are paying for a show as well as a party. That single fact is why sangeet budgets surprise families. You are not just feeding 250 people. You are building a stage, hanging a screen, renting a line array, hiring a choreographer for six weeks, dressing twenty performers and lighting the whole thing so it looks good on camera. Every one of those is a separate invoice.

Across the weddings we plan, the sangeet night lands in three broad bands. A tight, well run sangeet at a mid tier banquet or a family farmhouse, 150 to 200 guests, DJ led, family choreographed, comes in around Rs 3.5 lakh to Rs 6 lakh all in. The most common band, and the one most of our Hyderabad and Bengaluru clients sit in, is Rs 8 lakh to Rs 15 lakh: a good hotel ballroom or a resort lawn, 250 to 350 guests, a real stage with an LED wall, a professional choreographer, an anchor and a proper bar. Above that, a luxury sangeet with a named artist or a live band, a designer set, cold pyro and full multi camera coverage runs Rs 25 lakh to Rs 45 lakh, and destination sangeets in Udaipur or Jaipur push past Rs 60 lakh once travel and freight are counted.

The useful way to think about it is share of spend rather than absolute rupees. On a typical sangeet, food and beverage is 40 to 50 percent, production (stage, sound, light, LED) is 20 to 30 percent, decor and florals 10 to 15 percent, choreography and talent 8 to 12 percent, and photo, video and everything else fills the last slice. If your quote is wildly off those ratios, someone has either padded a line or is about to hit you with extras.

The itemised sangeet budget, line by line

Below is the full line item list we build every sangeet budget from, with 2026 market bands. The three tiers assume roughly 150, 300 and 500 guests respectively, in a metro or a Tier 1 city. Tier 2 cities generally run 20 to 30 percent below these numbers for labour heavy lines (decor, manpower, choreography) but almost the same for equipment, because the LED wall and the line array are trucked in from the same rental houses.

Read the table as a menu, not a total. Almost nobody buys every line at the top of its band. Families who spend well pick two or three lines to be generous on, usually the stage, the choreography and the bar, and hold the rest at the middle of the range.

Venue: ballroom F&B minimum versus farmhouse versus home lawn

This is the first of three decisions that sets the whole budget, and it is the one families get wrong most often, because the hotel quote looks cheap on paper.

Hotel ballroom

A five star ballroom in Hyderabad, Bengaluru or Delhi NCR rarely charges plain hall rent for a sangeet. It charges a food and beverage minimum: guarantee Rs 12 lakh of F&B and the ballroom is yours. On paper the venue is free. In practice you have committed to a floor. Add the mandatory in house bar, the corkage if you bring your own liquor, and the ballroom is comfortably your largest single line. What you get in return is real: air conditioning, backup power, rigging points already in the ceiling, service staff, washrooms, parking and no generator noise. Farmhouse or resort lawn

A farmhouse on the city outskirts typically rents at Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 5 lakh for the evening, and you bring your own caterer. That flexibility usually saves 20 to 30 percent on food. It also transfers a pile of costs to you: a 125 kVA to 250 kVA silent generator at Rs 18,000 to Rs 45,000 for the night, portable washrooms, extra security, valet, mosquito fogging, and outdoor cooling or heating depending on the season. Home lawn or apartment clubhouse

The cheapest genuine option, and for 80 to 150 guests it can be lovely. Expect Rs 2.5 lakh to Rs 5 lakh for a home sangeet done properly with a modest stage, a small LED, a DJ and catering. The constraints are hard ones though: rigging is limited so your stage tops out around 20 feet by 12 feet, sound has to be kept civil for neighbours, and in most residential zones amplified sound must stop by 10 pm under the environment ministry noise rules. Build the timeline backwards from that cutoff or you will pay a DJ to sit idle.

Food, bar and the cocktail line

Sangeet catering is different from wedding day catering and is priced differently. Guests arrive at 7 pm, drink and graze through a two hour performance block, then eat late. That means a heavy live counter and passed canapé programme, and a dinner that has to hold hot for an extra hour. Caterers charge for both.

In 2026, a sangeet dinner runs Rs 900 to Rs 1,400 per plate at a good local caterer in a Tier 2 city, Rs 1,800 to Rs 2,800 at a Tier 1 banquet or a four star, and Rs 3,500 to Rs 6,000 in a five star ballroom with live stations, an imported cheese and charcuterie counter and a dessert display. The bar is where sangeet budgets quietly double. A sangeet is the drinking night of an Indian wedding, and consumption is genuinely higher than at the reception. Plan for 2.5 to 3.5 drinks per drinking guest across a four hour evening. On an in house hotel bar at Rs 1,600 to Rs 3,200 per person for an unlimited IMFL package, a 300 guest sangeet with 180 drinkers is a Rs 3 lakh to Rs 5.5 lakh line before premium spirits. Bringing your own liquor and paying corkage of Rs 300 to Rs 800 per bottle almost always wins on a sangeet specifically, because volume is high. Stage, truss, LED wall and screens

The stage is what separates a sangeet from a dinner party, and it is a production line item, not a decor one. Price it that way and you will stop being surprised.

A basic 24 foot by 16 foot stage at 2 feet height, with a skirt, steps and a plain backdrop, runs Rs 35,000 to Rs 60,000. Once you add a truss goalpost or a box truss grid to hang lights and the screen from, you are at Rs 1.2 lakh to Rs 2.5 lakh, because trussing is priced per running foot plus rigging labour plus a structural sign off at most hotels. A designer set with a built platform, a runway into the audience, multiple levels and a custom fabricated backdrop is Rs 4 lakh to Rs 9 lakh and takes a full day to install, which is why the rehearsal day venue cost appears in your budget.

LED walls are quoted per square foot, and this is the single most misunderstood number in the sangeet budget. Indoor P3 or P3.9 panels rent at roughly Rs 130 to Rs 220 per square foot per day in 2026, including the processor, the media server and an operator. A modest 16 foot by 9 foot wall is 144 square feet, so around Rs 25,000 to Rs 45,000. A 32 foot by 12 foot centrepiece wall is 384 square feet and lands at Rs 70,000 to Rs 1.2 lakh. Add side screens for the back of the room at Rs 20,000 to Rs 40,000 each. Finer pitch panels, P2.5 and below, cost 40 to 60 percent more and only matter if your front row is within ten feet of the screen. Sound system sizing, DJ and the sound engineer

Sound is sized by guest count and by room, and undersizing is the most common technical failure at a sangeet. A rough rule from the audio houses we work with: budget roughly 4 to 6 watts of RMS power per guest for a music heavy indoor event, then round up for an outdoor lawn where there are no walls to reflect energy back.

• Up to 150 guests, indoors. Two tops on stands plus two subs, a small digital console, four monitors. Rs 20,000 to Rs 40,000 for the night.
• 150 to 350 guests. A compact line array, six to eight boxes a side, four to six subs, side fills and stage monitors, a 32 channel digital desk. Rs 70,000 to Rs 1.5 lakh.
• 350 to 700 guests, or an open lawn. A full line array with delay towers, twelve or more subs, in ear monitoring for a live act. Rs 2.5 lakh to Rs 5 lakh.

A dedicated sound engineer costs Rs 12,000 to Rs 40,000 for the night and is not optional once you have live vocals, radio mics for the anchor and playback for twelve performances all going through one desk. The DJ is a separate hire. One warning that costs families money every season: many DJs quote a package that bundles basic sound, and that bundled rig is almost always undersized for a sangeet with live performances. Price the sound separately and let the DJ plug into it.

Lighting is the other half of the production spend and the reason your video looks like a wedding film rather than a phone clip. Moving heads, wash bars, profile spots for the stage, a follow spot for the couple, hazers and a control desk with a programmer. DJ only versus a live band or singer

The second big decision. A DJ only sangeet is efficient: one vendor, one rig, seamless transitions between performances and open floor, and total control of the playlist. It is also what 80 percent of sangeets are, and there is nothing second rate about it.

A live element changes the economics sharply. A four to six piece wedding band with a vocalist costs Rs 1.2 lakh to Rs 3 lakh for a ninety minute set, plus backline rental of Rs 25,000 to Rs 60,000, plus a bigger sound package, plus monitors and a soundcheck slot that eats two hours of your setup day. A known playback or independent singer is Rs 8 lakh to Rs 40 lakh depending on the name, and the rider (business class travel, hotel suites, a specified console, a green room, local ground transport) is a real cost, often another Rs 2 lakh to Rs 6 lakh that is not in the artist fee. Our honest guidance: on a sangeet under Rs 15 lakh, spend the money on a bigger stage, a proper LED wall and a better choreographer rather than a live act. Guests remember the family performances and the room, not the band. Above Rs 25 lakh, a live act becomes the centrepiece and justifies itself, but book it first and build the rest of the budget around it, because the artist fee will not flex and everything else will.

Anchor, choreographer and the performance budget

The third decision, and the one that most affects how the evening actually feels.

Anchor or emcee

A sangeet without an anchor drifts. Someone has to hold the room between acts, cue the DJ, run the games and keep the running order on time. A capable local emcee is Rs 15,000 to Rs 40,000, a strong bilingual professional with a following is Rs 60,000 to Rs 1.5 lakh, and a television face crosses Rs 3 lakh. Choreographer packages

Choreographers price four ways, and you need to know which one you are being quoted.

• Per song. Rs 8,000 to Rs 25,000 per number in most cities, including three to four rehearsal sessions. This is the honest way to buy if you only have four or five performances.
• Per family group. Rs 15,000 to Rs 45,000 for a group of six to ten people learning one or two numbers together. Cheaper per head, and it keeps rehearsal logistics sane.
• Full sangeet package. Rs 1.2 lakh to Rs 2.5 lakh at mid tier for ten to fourteen performances, twelve to eighteen rehearsal sessions across four to six weeks, a running order, a mixed audio track and presence on the night. Rs 4 lakh to Rs 10 lakh for a named choreographer with a team, custom mixes, formation design and a full day of stage rehearsal.
• Extras that get billed separately. An assistant choreographer at Rs 3,000 to Rs 8,000 per session, travel if rehearsals are at your home, an audio mixing charge of Rs 3,000 to Rs 10,000 per track, and a rehearsal studio at Rs 800 to Rs 2,500 an hour if you do not have space.

Full city by city rates are on wedding choreographer cost. What it costs you instead is time, several arguments and, usually, a running order that overruns by forty minutes. Our rule of thumb: under six performances, go family led. Costumes and coordination

Coordinated performer outfits are a line families forget entirely. Budget Rs 2,500 to Rs 6,000 per performer for a rented or lightly tailored coordinated look, Rs 8,000 to Rs 20,000 for custom made. Decor, florals, coverage and the lines nobody budgets

Sangeet decor is cheaper than mandap decor because the LED wall does the storytelling. What you are buying is atmosphere around the edges: entrance moment, seating and lounge clusters, table centres, a bar back, drapes and ceiling treatment, and the pathway. Expect Rs 2 lakh to Rs 4.5 lakh at mid tier and Rs 8 lakh to Rs 20 lakh for a designed luxury set. Fresh flower work is the swing factor: a marigold and greens palette is a third the cost of imported hydrangea and orchids, which have to be air freighted and are priced daily. Coverage for the sangeet night alone runs Rs 1.2 lakh to Rs 2.5 lakh at mid tier for a lead photographer, a second shooter, two video operators and a same day edit crew, and Rs 4 lakh to Rs 9 lakh for a luxury team with a gimbal operator, a crane or jib and a full same day edit screened at the reception. Sangeet coverage is technically harder than any other function because the room is dark, the LED is bright and the subjects move fast, so cheap crews visibly fail here. Then the lines that appear on the final invoice and not the first quote:

• Rehearsal day venue. Most stages need a day to build, and a stage rehearsal the same afternoon. Hotels charge 30 to 50 percent of the hall rate for a build day, Rs 30,000 to Rs 70,000 at mid tier. Farmhouses often give it free.
• Props, confetti and cold pyro. Confetti blasters at Rs 1,500 to Rs 3,500 per shot, cold spark machines at Rs 8,000 to Rs 15,000 per unit for the night, CO2 jets at Rs 6,000 to Rs 12,000, and low fog at Rs 10,000 to Rs 25,000. Indoor pyro needs venue and fire clearance, and some hotels simply refuse.
• After party. A separate room, a smaller rig, a late bar and extended staff overtime. Rs 60,000 to Rs 1.5 lakh at mid tier, Rs 3 lakh to Rs 8 lakh done properly with its own DJ and bar.
• Overtime. Every production vendor prices to a cutoff, usually midnight. Beyond it, expect 15 to 25 percent of the contract value per additional hour. Sangeets overrun more than any other function.

How sangeet cost scales with guests and with performances

Two independent variables drive the number, and families routinely confuse them.

Guest count scales the consumable half of the budget almost linearly. Every additional guest adds a plate, a share of the bar, a chair, a table setting and a slice of service staff. Going from 200 to 400 guests roughly doubles food and beverage, which is half your budget, so it adds around 45 to 55 percent to the total. It also steps up sound (a bigger array), lighting (more coverage), and possibly the venue tier, none of which move smoothly. They jump at thresholds. Performance count scales the production half. Going from six performances to fourteen does not touch your food bill at all, but it adds choreography sessions, more costumes, more LED content, a longer rehearsal day, a bigger monitor package and, critically, an extra ninety minutes of runtime that pushes you into overtime. In practice each additional performance costs Rs 12,000 to Rs 35,000 once you count choreography, costumes and content, before any overtime.

The trap is doing both. A 400 guest sangeet with fourteen performances is not one step up from a 200 guest sangeet with six. It is close to triple. Three worked sangeet budgets

Rs 4 lakh sangeet, 150 guests, Tier 2 city farmhouse

Venue Rs 70,000 including a generator. Dinner at Rs 1,100 per plate, Rs 1.65 lakh. Bring your own bar, Rs 55,000 in stock and ice. Stage 24 by 16 feet with a fabric backdrop and a 12 by 7 foot LED, Rs 70,000 combined. Sound and DJ bundled from a local operator, Rs 45,000. Basic wash and moving head lighting, Rs 30,000. Family led choreography with a cousin running rehearsals, zero. Coordinated dupattas for two groups, Rs 22,000. Decor kept to an entrance moment, table centres and drapes, Rs 65,000. One photographer and one video operator, Rs 45,000. Confetti and a couple of CO2 blasts, Rs 12,000. That overshoots Rs 4 lakh slightly, so the usual trims are a smaller LED and a shorter bar. Ballroom against an F&B minimum, dinner at Rs 2,200 per plate, Rs 6.6 lakh in food, which clears the minimum. Bring your own liquor with corkage, Rs 1.6 lakh. A 32 by 14 foot truss stage with a 24 by 10 foot P3 LED, Rs 1.9 lakh. Line array sound with a dedicated engineer, Rs 1.1 lakh. Designed lighting rig with a programmer, Rs 1.3 lakh. What to check before you pay the advance

Sangeet vendors take a 40 to 50 percent advance, and production houses often want 70 percent before the truck loads. Before that money moves, get these in writing.

• An equipment list, by brand and quantity. Not “professional sound system”. Write the number of tops, subs, monitors, moving heads and the exact LED pitch and panel count. Substitution is the single most common cheat in Indian event production.
• The LED wall dimensions in feet and in pixels. Both. Your content editor needs the pixel map, and you need the feet to check what arrived.
• Setup and dismantle windows. Who pays if the hotel releases the hall late. Who pays the build day charge.
• The cutoff time and the overtime rate. A rupee figure per hour, agreed in advance, not “as applicable”.
• What the DJ package excludes. Almost always: the anchor mic, the stage monitors and the engineer.
• Choreography deliverables. Number of songs, number of sessions, whether the audio mix is included, whether an assistant attends and whether the choreographer is present on the night or only at rehearsals.
• Rain and power contingency for any outdoor sangeet, with a named backup structure and generator capacity.

Two last pieces of practical advice. First, pay production vendors the balance on the morning of the event, not the day before, so that you retain leverage while the rig is being built. Second, appoint one person, ideally your planner, as the only voice giving instructions to the stage and sound crew on the night.
