A Rs 2 crore wedding budget in India typically buys a three to four night buyout of a heritage palace or resort for 300 to 400 guests, a designer led production team, a headline performer, a multi camera film crew and full outstation hospitality. Venue and F and B take around 35 percent, production 17 percent, entertainment 11 percent.
The Rs 2 crore line is where money stops being the constraint
Below Rs 1 crore, almost every planning conversation is a trade. You want the lake facing lawn but the room block does not fit, so you shorten the wedding by a night. You want imported florals but the catering upgrade eats the margin, so you go local and seasonal. Every decision costs another decision. That is what a budget is.
At Rs 2 crore, that stops being true, and families are usually unprepared for it. The number is large enough that the venue, the guest list, the production and the entertainment can all be specified at the top of the market at the same time, without one cannibalising the next. What replaces money as the constraint is taste, logistics and the calendar. Taste, because a Rs 2 crore wedding with no point of view just looks like an expensive one. Logistics, because moving 350 people to a palace for four nights is a hospitality operation, not a guest list. Calendar, because the twelve properties in India that can actually host this wedding well are booked eighteen months out on the dates you want.
This is a different animal from the tier below it. If you have read our Rs 1 crore wedding budget breakdown, you will recognise the shape of the allocation but almost none of the ceilings. A Rs 1 crore wedding is a very good wedding at a very good hotel. A Rs 2 crore wedding is a produced multi day event that happens to include a wedding. The families we work with at this level are usually splitting the guest list between a home city function and a destination leg, hosting substantial NRI travel, and treating the whole thing as a four day hosted experience rather than a series of functions.
Everything below assumes 2026 market rates, a 300 to 400 guest destination wedding in India, three to four nights, four to five functions, and figures that are all in including tax. If your quotes are pre GST, you are not planning a Rs 2 crore wedding. You are planning a Rs 2.3 crore one, and we will come back to that.
The full Rs 2 crore allocation, itemised
This is the allocation we work from as a starting draft for a four day destination wedding with roughly 350 guests, of whom about 250 are outstation and staying on property. Percentages shift by ten points either way depending on whether you are buying a palace or buying an artist, but the structure holds.
| Head | Allocation | Percent of budget | What it covers |
|---|---|---|---|
| Venue buyout, rooms and food and beverage | Rs 70,00,000 | 35% | Three to four night exclusive use, 130 to 160 keys, all meals, banqueting, service charge |
| Design, decor and production | Rs 34,00,000 | 17% | Designer fee, set fabrication, florals, staging, lighting, rigging, labour |
| Entertainment | Rs 22,00,000 | 11% | Headline act, supporting artists, live band, DJ, sound and backline, artist logistics |
| Couture, jewellery styling and trousseau | Rs 16,00,000 | 8% | Bridal and groom couture, four to six outfits each, immediate family styling |
| Photography and film | Rs 14,00,000 | 7% | Two photo teams, cinematic film crew, drone, same day edit, teaser and feature film |
| Planner and production fee | Rs 14,00,000 | 7% | Flat producer fee, on ground production managers, technical direction, GST |
| Guest travel, charters and ground transport | Rs 12,00,000 | 6% | Group air, chartered or block coach movement, airport transfers, on property buggies |
| Hospitality and guest management | Rs 6,00,000 | 3% | Welcome hampers, room amenities, guest desk staffing, hostess team, signage |
| Beauty, hair, mehndi and grooming | Rs 4,00,000 | 2% | Celebrity artist for the bride, family team, mehndi artists, travel and stay |
| Invitations, stationery and gifting | Rs 3,00,000 | 1.5% | Box invitations, courier, on site collateral, return gifting |
| Contingency | Rs 3,00,000 | 1.5% | Weather calls, overtime, last minute room additions |
| Rituals, priest, permissions and compliance | Rs 2,00,000 | 1% | Priest, samagri, licences, sound permissions, insurance |
Two things stand out to most families reading that table for the first time. Venue and food together are only about a third, which feels low until you realise the number itself is Rs 70 lakh. And contingency at Rs 3 lakh looks thin, because at this tier the real contingency is baked into the individual line items rather than parked in one pot. Run your own version against our wedding budget calculator before you commit to a property, because the venue decision fixes about half of everything else.
What Rs 2 crore buys that Rs 1 crore cannot reliably buy
The honest answer to why you would double the budget is not that everything gets twice as good. Catering does not get twice as good. Photography does not get twice as good. What doubles is the number of things you can specify at the top of the market simultaneously, and the biggest single unlock is exclusivity.
| Element | At Rs 1 crore | At Rs 2 crore |
|---|---|---|
| Venue | Room block of 60 to 90 keys at a five star or heritage hotel, shared property, two nights | Full buyout of a palace or resort for three to four nights, no other guests on property |
| Guest scale | 200 to 250 guests, most local, limited outstation stay | 300 to 400 guests with 250 plus outstation rooms and full board hospitality |
| Design | Strong decorator with a good stock inventory and seasonal florals | Named designer, custom set fabrication, imported blooms, a distinct look per function |
| Entertainment | Excellent live band, well known DJ, a rising playback singer at a stretch | A genuine headline act or a top tier playback or Bollywood artist as the sangeet centrepiece |
| Film | Reputed photographer plus a two person video team, one film | Multi camera cinematic crew, drone unit, same day edit, teaser and long form feature |
| Guest movement | Coaches and airport transfers, guests book their own flights | Chartered flight or fully hosted group air, luxury coaches, on property buggy fleet |
| Couture | One statement bridal outfit plus two to three supporting looks | Custom couture for bride and groom, four to six looks each, coordinated family styling |
| Planner | Full service planner with a team of four to six on ground | Producer led team of fifteen to twenty five including technical and hospitality leads |
Notice how many of those rows are about capacity rather than quality. That is the real story of this tier. You are buying the ability to control the entire environment your guests are in for four days, which is a category of spend that simply does not exist at Rs 50 lakh. If you are weighing the step up, our Rs 50 lakh wedding budget guide shows where the ladder starts.
The buyout: which properties this tier plays at, and how the maths works
A buyout means you take every key on the property for a set number of nights and the hotel closes to outside guests. Hotels price it as a minimum committed spend rather than a rack rate multiplication, so the negotiation is not room by room. It is one number that has to be met across rooms, food and beverage, banqueting and venue rental combined. That is why it behaves so differently from a room block.
Rajasthan heritage palaces
This is the classic Rs 2 crore destination. Udaipur and Jaipur dominate, with Jodhpur close behind. A mid sized heritage palace with 60 to 90 keys will typically want a committed spend of Rs 55 lakh to Rs 1.1 crore for three nights in peak season, and the marquee palaces sit well above that. The trade off is real: the smaller the property, the more magical the exclusivity, and the fewer of your 350 guests actually sleep on site. Most families we work with solve this by buying out a heritage palace for the immediate family and closest 120 guests, and blocking a large adjacent five star for everyone else. Our breakdowns of Umaid Bhawan Palace and Taj Lake Palace show how differently two icons price the same idea, and the wider Rajasthan palace venue list is the right place to shortlist from.
Large Goa and Kerala resorts
If you want 250 plus guests all sleeping on the same property, a large beach resort is a better instrument than a palace. A 150 to 250 key resort in South Goa or on the Kerala backwaters will quote a three night buyout in the Rs 70 lakh to Rs 1.4 crore band depending on season, and unlike a palace it can absorb your whole guest list without a satellite hotel. You lose the architecture and gain the logistics. The Kerala resort options in particular are underrated at this budget because peak season pricing is gentler than Rajasthan in December.
International: Thailand and the UAE
At Rs 2 crore, an international wedding stops being an extravagance and becomes an arithmetic question. Thailand often lands cheaper per guest than Udaipur in December once you account for the room and food rates, but you add air movement for 250 people and a foreign vendor supply chain. Dubai and Abu Dhabi cost more on the venue but almost nothing on logistics because the airlift is easy and the vendor market is mature. Compare the two on real numbers via our Thailand wedding cost guide and the Dubai wedding cost breakdown before you assume abroad is dearer.
Whatever you choose, the buyout contract is where the money is won or lost. Insist that the committed spend is inclusive of taxes and service charge, that unconsumed food and beverage credit is transferable across functions, and that the property confirms in writing there will be no other event or guest on site for your dates. Our palace wedding cost guide goes into the clause level detail.
Production, design and the imported flower question
Rs 34 lakh on design is not a decorator budget. It is a production budget, and the distinction matters. A decorator prices you a look from an inventory. A production team prices you a build: a designer draws each function as a set, a fabrication unit builds it in a workshop, and a technical crew rigs, lights and strikes it. On a four day wedding at this tier you are usually fabricating three separate environments in the same venue and turning the space over twice overnight.
Expect the designer or design studio fee alone to run Rs 6 lakh to Rs 15 lakh before a single flower is bought. Fabrication, staging and rigging typically consume Rs 12 lakh to Rs 18 lakh across the event. Florals are the elastic band: an all local, in season scheme for four functions comes in around Rs 6 lakh to Rs 9 lakh, while a scheme built on imported hydrangea, peony, David Austin roses or orchids flown in through Bengaluru or Mumbai will run Rs 14 lakh to Rs 25 lakh for the same physical volume. There is no way to make that cheaper without changing the flower. Our wedding florist cost guide has the stem level economics, and the decorator cost breakdown covers the tier below.
The mistake we see most often at Rs 2 crore is spending the money on quantity rather than on a single idea executed at scale. A guest remembers one extraordinary room. They do not remember four merely expensive ones. If your designer cannot describe each function in one sentence, you are buying decor, not design.
Entertainment: what the headline artist market actually costs
This is the line item families most want a straight answer on, and the one the industry is vaguest about. Artist pricing in India is quoted per show, moves with demand, and is almost always negotiated through a management agency rather than direct. Broadly, in the 2026 market, a strong live band with a known frontman sits at Rs 3 lakh to Rs 8 lakh. A well established playback singer or an independent chart artist runs Rs 15 lakh to Rs 35 lakh. A genuine top tier Bollywood name, the kind guests will still be talking about a year later, starts around Rs 60 lakh and can go past Rs 2 crore on its own for the biggest names, which is precisely why a Rs 2 crore wedding usually cannot have one without collapsing every other line.
What Rs 22 lakh of entertainment realistically buys is one strong headline act plus a proper supporting programme: a live band for the mehendi, a good DJ with a real sound and light rider for the after party, a shehnai artist or instrumentalist for the ceremony, and the logistics that surround all of them. The logistics are not trivial. Budget Rs 2 lakh to Rs 5 lakh on top of any headline fee for artist travel, business class or charter, a room block for the entourage, backline hire, a technical rider that the venue can actually meet, and a rehearsal window.
Two contractual points. First, get the artist rider before you sign, not after, because meeting a proper stage and sound rider at a heritage property can add Rs 4 lakh to Rs 6 lakh of rigging you had not budgeted. Second, insist on a named artist clause with a refund condition, not a category substitution clause. Families choreographing their own performances alongside all this should read our choreographer cost guide and plan the sangeet as its own production using the sangeet night cost breakdown.
Guests, rooms and getting 250 people to a palace
Hospitality is where Rs 2 crore weddings quietly succeed or fail. Your guests will not evaluate the wedding on the decor. They will evaluate it on whether their transfer was waiting, whether their room was ready, and whether anybody knew their name. Budget accordingly.
For a 250 plus outstation room block over four nights, plan for a dedicated guest desk staffed from first arrival to last departure, one hostess per 25 guests, a room list built and locked six weeks out with a written rooming chart, and welcome hampers at Rs 1,500 to Rs 4,000 a room. Airport transfers for 250 people over a 36 hour arrival window need a coach and sedan rota, not a WhatsApp group. Our wedding hospitality cost guide details the staffing ratios, and the transport cost breakdown covers vehicle rates.
On air movement, a chartered narrow body for 150 to 180 guests on a domestic sector typically runs Rs 25 lakh to Rs 45 lakh return depending on route and aircraft, which is often no cheaper than block booking scheduled seats but buys you a single arrival time and a controllable schedule. Most families we work with block scheduled seats for the bulk of guests and charter only for elders and the immediate family. If a meaningful share of your guest list is flying in from abroad, build the timeline backwards from visa and airfare windows using our NRI wedding planning timeline, and size the room block against the cost by guest count guide.
Film, photography and the content crew
Rs 14 lakh buys a genuinely serious content operation, and this is one of the few heads where doubling the budget from the tier below does produce visibly better work, because the constraint at Rs 1 crore is crew size rather than talent. At Rs 2 crore you can field two photography teams working different functions simultaneously, a cinematic film crew of five to eight with proper cinema bodies and gimbals, a licensed drone operator, and a dedicated edit unit on site producing a same day edit for the reception.
Market bands in 2026: a top tier photography studio contracts at Rs 5 lakh to Rs 12 lakh for a multi day wedding, a cinematic film team at Rs 6 lakh to Rs 15 lakh, drone at Rs 60,000 to Rs 1.5 lakh depending on permissions and days, and same day edit at Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 3 lakh as an add on. Travel, stay and equipment freight for a crew of ten adds Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 3 lakh, and it is almost always billed separately, so check whether your quote is inclusive. Our videographer cost guide and photographer cost guide break down what each deliverable actually costs to produce.
Two practical notes. Drone flying at heritage properties and near airports needs written permission and is frequently refused, so confirm airspace before you promise your film maker an aerial. And specify deliverable deadlines contractually, because the single most common complaint at this budget is not quality. It is waiting eleven months for a feature film.
Couture, and the wardrobe nobody budgets for
Rs 16 lakh sounds generous until you count the outfits. A four day wedding means the bride is dressed for five or six occasions and the groom for four or five, and at this tier at least two of those are custom couture commissioned from a named designer with a four to six month lead time. A custom bridal lehenga from a top Indian couture house runs Rs 6 lakh to Rs 20 lakh, a reception gown or a second statement piece Rs 2 lakh to Rs 6 lakh, and supporting looks Rs 60,000 to Rs 2 lakh each. Groom couture with a bandhgala, a sherwani and a formal reception look lands at Rs 3 lakh to Rs 8 lakh in total.
What families consistently forget is the family wardrobe. Coordinated outfits for parents, siblings and the wedding party across four functions add Rs 3 lakh to Rs 6 lakh on their own, and because nobody budgeted it, it gets funded by cutting something else in month ten. Put it in the sheet on day one. Jewellery is treated separately in almost every household as it is usually family or an investment purchase, and we deliberately keep it outside the Rs 2 crore. If you include it, you are running a Rs 2.5 crore wedding. See our bridal lehenga cost guide for current couture bands and bridal makeup costs for what a celebrity artist charges to travel with you for four days.
The planner as producer, the fee model, GST and the commission trap
At Rs 2 crore, the planner is not coordinating vendors. They are producing an event with a crew of fifteen to twenty five people on ground, including a technical director, a hospitality lead, a guest movement lead and function specific production managers. That is a different job with a different fee structure, and understanding the structure is worth more to you than negotiating the number.
There are two models. A percentage fee, typically 8 to 12 percent of spend at this tier, aligns the planner with a bigger budget, which is precisely the wrong incentive when your budget is already large. A flat producer fee, usually Rs 12 lakh to Rs 25 lakh for a four day multi city production, aligns them with delivery instead. At Rs 2 crore we recommend flat, with a defined scope, a defined crew size and a written change order process for anything added later. Our wedding planner cost guide compares both models in detail and luxury planner packages shows what is typically bundled.
GST changes the number more than you think
Wedding services attract GST, and at Rs 2 crore the tax is a line item in its own right. Hotel banqueting, planner fees, decor, transport and artist fees are all taxable, and rates vary by service category. If your working sheet says Rs 2 crore and your quotes are all pre tax, your real outflow is closer to Rs 2.3 crore. Ask every vendor for a tax inclusive quote in writing, and check the current rate for each service on the official CBIC rate finder rather than taking a vendor’s word for it.
The commission trap
This is the quiet one. Many vendors pay planners a referral commission of 10 to 20 percent, and some venues pay more. When that commission is invisible to you, it stops being a discount you never received and becomes a distortion in which vendors get recommended. At this budget the amounts are large enough to matter: a 15 percent commission on Rs 34 lakh of production is over Rs 5 lakh moving without your knowledge. Fix it with one contract clause. Require that the planner disclose all vendor commissions and either rebate them to you or deduct them from the flat fee. A good producer will agree without hesitation because their fee is already honest. Put it in writing using the checklist in our wedding planner contract guide.
Eighteen months out, and why the calendar is the real constraint
The properties that can host a Rs 2 crore wedding well number in the low dozens across India. On the twenty or so genuinely auspicious dates in a peak November to February season, those properties are effectively sold out eighteen to twenty four months in advance, and the marquee palaces longer. This is why families who start planning nine months out end up spending Rs 2 crore on a wedding that looks like a Rs 1.2 crore one. They are paying peak pricing for their second choice property.
A workable timeline looks like this. Eighteen months out, fix the date band and shortlist three properties, then site visit all three. Fifteen months out, sign the venue with the committed spend agreed and the buyout exclusivity written in. Twelve months out, appoint the planner or producer and lock the designer. Ten months out, book the headline artist, because the good ones are gone first and their calendars are not flexible. Eight months out, commission couture. Six months out, invitations out and the room block opened. Three months out, technical recce and production drawings signed. Six weeks out, rooming list and guest movement locked.
Off peak dates are the single biggest lever available to you at this tier. A buyout in April or in the monsoon shoulder can land 25 to 40 percent below December pricing at the same property, which on a Rs 70 lakh venue head is Rs 17 lakh to Rs 28 lakh released back into production or entertainment. If your family is flexible on the date, you are effectively planning a Rs 2.3 crore wedding for Rs 2 crore.
Where a Rs 2 crore wedding still wastes money
Having a large budget does not stop you from wasting it. It just changes what the waste looks like. These are the five patterns we see most consistently at this tier.
- Buying scale instead of an idea. More flowers, more props, more functions. Guests remember one exceptional moment, not four expensive ones. The cheapest way to look richer is to spend the same money on fewer, better things.
- Paying full peak season pricing without asking about buyout thresholds. Hotels almost always have a spend level at which venue rental waives entirely and one at which they will absorb rooms. Nobody volunteers those levels. Ask.
- Undisclosed vendor commissions. Covered above, and worth repeating because it is invisible by design and can quietly move Rs 8 lakh to Rs 15 lakh across a Rs 2 crore event.
- Over catering. At 350 guests across four days, the standard eighteen live counter menu produces enormous waste. Fewer stations executed properly costs less and eats better. Our per plate cost guide shows where the money actually goes on a plate.
- Ignoring the arrival experience. Families spend Rs 34 lakh on decor and Rs 40,000 on airport arrivals, then wonder why guests remember the two hour wait. The first ninety minutes of a guest’s trip sets the tone for four days.
The discipline that separates a great Rs 2 crore wedding from an expensive one is the same discipline that works at Rs 25 lakh: decide what the wedding is about before you decide what it costs. Start from the framework in our wedding budget planning guide, then scale it. The principles do not change. Only the zeros do.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many guests can a Rs 2 crore wedding budget cover in India?
Comfortably 300 to 400 guests for a three to four night destination wedding, of whom 250 or so stay on property with full board. You can push to 500 by moving to a large resort rather than a heritage palace and shortening the event to two nights, but the experience thins noticeably. Most families we work with land between 320 and 380 guests, which is the sweet spot for a buyout.
Can you book a Bollywood celebrity for a Rs 2 crore wedding?
It depends entirely on which tier of artist. A well established playback singer or an independent chart artist typically costs Rs 15 lakh to Rs 35 lakh per show and fits comfortably inside a Rs 2 crore budget. A genuine top tier Bollywood name starts around Rs 60 lakh and frequently exceeds Rs 1 crore, which would consume half your wedding. Add Rs 2 lakh to Rs 5 lakh for artist travel, entourage rooms and the technical rider.
What does a palace buyout actually cost in India?
Heritage palaces price buyouts as a minimum committed spend across rooms, food and banqueting rather than a room rate. A mid sized palace with 60 to 90 keys typically wants Rs 55 lakh to Rs 1.1 crore for three nights in peak season, and marquee properties sit well above that. Large Goa and Kerala resorts with 150 plus keys quote Rs 70 lakh to Rs 1.4 crore but can house your entire guest list on one property.
Is Rs 2 crore enough for an international destination wedding?
Yes, and often more comfortably than you expect. Thailand frequently lands cheaper per guest than Udaipur in peak December once room and food rates are compared, though you add air movement for 250 people. Dubai and Abu Dhabi cost more on venue but almost nothing on logistics because the airlift and vendor market are mature. The real cost of going abroad is guest attrition, not rupees.
What is the difference between a Rs 1 crore and a Rs 2 crore wedding?
Rs 1 crore buys an excellent wedding at an excellent hotel with a room block for 60 to 90 keys over two nights. Rs 2 crore buys exclusivity: a full property buyout for three to four nights, a designer led production team, a headline performer, a multi camera film crew and hosted travel. The quality of individual vendors does not double. The number of things you can specify at the top of the market does.
How far in advance should you book a Rs 2 crore wedding?
Eighteen to twenty four months for peak season dates, longer for the marquee palaces. The properties capable of hosting this tier well number in the low dozens across India, and the twenty or so auspicious dates each season sell out first. Fix the date band and shortlist at eighteen months, sign the venue by fifteen, appoint the producer at twelve, and book the headline artist at ten.
