A wedding at Taj Amer, Jaipur typically runs Rs 70 lakh to Rs 2 crore for 250 to 500 guests over two days. The hotel opened in December 2022 at Kukas, near Amber Fort, with 245 rooms, a pillarless ballroom of about 16,000 square feet listed for 1,000 guests and a large open-air lawn, which makes it one of the few Jaipur luxury venues built for big weddings.

The short answer

Budget Rs 70 lakh to Rs 2 crore for a two-day wedding at Taj Amer with 250 to 500 guests. A wedding of about 250 guests with a room block of 100 rooms sits near the lower end; a 500-guest wedding with a lawn sangeet, a ballroom reception and most of the hotel booked approaches the top.

The hotel does not publish a per-plate rate. Jaipur’s luxury hotels usually price weddings at Rs 3,500 to Rs 6,000 a plate per function once taxes and a full menu are included, and we plan with that band until the hotel quotes.

What Taj Amer is

Taj Amer is one of Jaipur’s newest luxury hotels. IHCL announced its opening on 5 December 2022 at Kukas, on the Delhi road a short drive from Amber Fort, north of the city. It has 245 rooms and suites and was designed with weddings and large events in mind: a pillarless ballroom, a big lawn and enough rooms to keep a large destination wedding under one roof.

That combination is unusual in Jaipur. The city’s famous palace hotels are atmospheric but limited in rooms and indoor space for very large guest lists, while modern banquet venues lack the luxury setting. Taj Amer sits between them: a luxury hotel with wedding-scale space.

The Jaigarh ballroom

IHCL describes the ballroom as about 16,000 square feet and pillarless. Cvent lists it at about 1,540 square metres with capacity for 1,000 guests. A pillarless room of that size gives clear sightlines to the stage, room for a large mandap and enough height for hanging installations and real stage lighting.

The 1,000 figure is a maximum. A seated wedding dinner with a stage, a dance floor and buffet counters usually fits around 600 to 700. Ask for a floor plan for your exact layout. Our venue capacity study explains how brochure capacity shrinks for a real wedding.

The lawn and other spaces

SpaceCapacity listedBest for
Jaigarh ballroomAbout 16,000 sq ft, up to 1,000 (IHCL, Cvent)Reception, wedding dinner, a weather-proof wedding
Open-air lawnAbout 3,241 sq m (Spalba); seating on requestPheras under the sky, a sangeet
Smaller roomsSix meeting rooms in all (Cvent), about 29,224 sq ft of event spaceMehndi, haldi, family functions

Directories count the rooms differently, so ask the hotel for the seated capacity of each space for your format, especially the lawn, for which no verified seating figure is published.

245 rooms: the room block

At double occupancy, 245 rooms house roughly 450 to 480 guests, so even a large Jaipur wedding can stay largely on site. That removes the shuttle problem that dominates weddings spread across several city hotels, and it keeps guests together for every function. Hold the block early on peak winter dates and agree a release date for unused rooms. Our guide to wedding hotel room blocks covers what to negotiate.

Where the money goes

These are our planning estimates for a luxury Jaipur hotel wedding of this size, not the hotel’s quotes.

Three worked budgets

WeddingGuestsFormatIndicative total
Ballroom wedding250Two days, 100-room block, three functionsRs 70 lakh to Rs 1.1 crore
Classic Jaipur wedding350Two days, lawn sangeet, ballroom receptionRs 1 crore to Rs 1.6 crore
Large wedding500Two days, most of the hotel, premium productionRs 1.4 crore to Rs 2 crore

The arithmetic behind the middle line: 350 guests across four functions at an average of Rs 4,500 a plate is about Rs 63 lakh in food, if every guest attends every function, which they rarely do; the realistic figure is lower. Around 150 rooms for two nights at Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000 adds Rs 45 lakh to Rs 60 lakh. Decor for the lawn and the ballroom adds Rs 25 lakh to Rs 40 lakh.

The Amber Fort connection

Taj Amer’s location near Amber Fort is part of its appeal. Guests can visit the fort on a free morning, and couples often plan a portrait session there or at the nearby forts and stepwells. Panna Meena ka Kund and the old lanes of Amer make striking backdrops in the early morning light. Shooting inside protected monuments needs permission from the authorities and has its own rules and fees, so arrange it well in advance.

Getting there

Jaipur’s airport has direct flights from most Indian metros. Taj Amer is north of the city on the Delhi road, so expect a drive of 45 minutes or more from the airport depending on traffic, and a shorter run for guests driving from Delhi, who avoid crossing the city. Time transfers to flights, and give the baraat route a traffic plan if it uses public roads.

Season

October to March is the Jaipur wedding season, with November, December and February the busiest and most expensive. Evenings in late December and January are cold enough to need heaters on the lawn. From April the heat makes outdoor functions hard, and the ballroom becomes the main venue. Our muhurat calendar lists the dates that book first.

Food at a Jaipur wedding

Jaipur families expect Rajasthani dishes alongside the North Indian spread: dal baati churma, gatte ki sabzi, ker sangri and laal maas, with live counters for kachoris and chaat. A large wedding also needs speed, so ask the hotel how many live counters it runs per hundred guests in the ballroom and on the lawn. Our guide to the per-plate cost of an Indian wedding explains how counters and taxes add up.

Decor in the Jaigarh ballroom

A pillarless room of 16,000 square feet can feel like a convention hall unless the decor brings its scale down. Lighting does most of the work: with the house lights off and warm, layered lighting, the room changes completely. A ceiling of fabric or hanging florals lowers the height visually, and dividing the room into zones, a lounge, the dance floor and the dining area, makes 500 guests feel like a party rather than an audience. Ask the hotel about rigging points, weight limits and setup hours, particularly if the ballroom hosts another event the day before.

Budget by guest count

GuestsWhat usually changesIndicative total
200Part of the ballroom, 80-room blockRs 60 lakh to Rs 90 lakh
350Full ballroom and lawn, 150-room blockRs 1 crore to Rs 1.6 crore
500Most of the hotel, larger decor, two barsRs 1.4 crore to Rs 2 crore

The step between rows is mostly rooms and food. Decor grows more slowly, because a ballroom of this size needs a full build whether 300 or 500 people fill it.

Guests between functions

Jaipur gives guests plenty to do: Amber Fort and Jaigarh Fort are close to the hotel, and the City Palace, Hawa Mahal and the bazaars of the walled city are a drive away. For a two-day wedding, one free morning with a guided visit to Amber Fort is enough, and a shuttle into the old city for shopping is always popular. Book any group fort visit in advance, because the fort is busy in the wedding season.

Taj Amer against other Jaipur venues

  • Against Rambagh Palace: Rambagh is the city’s grand heritage palace, with a price and an atmosphere to match. Taj Amer offers more rooms and a far bigger ballroom for a large guest list.
  • Against Fairmont Jaipur: another large luxury hotel on the Amer side of the city, built in palace style. Compare ballroom sizes and room blocks.
  • Against The Leela Palace Jaipur: a palace-style luxury hotel on the Delhi road; compare pricing for your date.

The baraat at Taj Amer

A Jaipur baraat is a big moment, often with a decorated horse or an elephant-style procession, a brass band and fireworks. At a hotel on the Delhi road, the safest plan keeps the procession inside the hotel grounds and driveway rather than on the highway. Ask the hotel which route the baraat can take, what animals are permitted, when fireworks are allowed and how the procession reaches the lawn or ballroom entrance. Police permission is needed for any part of the route that uses public roads.

Who Taj Amer suits

It suits a large Jaipur wedding of 250 to 500 guests that wants a luxury hotel, a big pillarless ballroom, a lawn for the pheras and most guests staying on site. Couples who want centuries-old palace architecture as the setting will prefer Rambagh or a heritage palace; Taj Amer is a modern hotel with heritage touches.

Questions to ask the hotel

  • What is the seated dinner capacity of the ballroom with a stage and buffets?
  • What is the seated capacity of the lawn, and what is the rain plan?
  • What group rate and release date apply to a block of 100 rooms or more?
  • Can the baraat use the driveway, and what permissions are needed on the road?
  • Which decorators are permitted, and are there access charges?
