A wedding at Radisson Blu Resort and Spa Alibaug runs roughly Rs 50 lakh to Rs 1.5 crore for 300 to 600 guests across two days. With 156 rooms and a 25,000 square foot lawn it is the largest wedding property in Alibaug, and the per-plate rate from around Rs 6,500 is what puts it above the Lonavala belt on cost.
The short answer
Budget Rs 50 lakh to Rs 1.5 crore for a two-day wedding with 300 to 600 guests.
Alibaug is Mumbai’s coastal weekend belt, and Radisson Blu at Varasoli is its largest wedding property. The proposition is a beach-adjacent resort wedding with a genuine guest list, reachable from Mumbai without a flight, which is a combination Goa cannot offer and the Lonavala hills cannot either.
It is meaningfully more expensive per head than the Lonavala belt, and the reason is catering: published per-plate rates start around Rs 6,500, against Rs 1,300 to Rs 2,400 at the hill resorts. On 400 guests across three functions that difference alone runs to tens of lakh, so price the food line before falling for the location.
Where the money goes
| Line | Typical range | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Rooms, 2 nights | Rs 15 lakh to 40 lakh | 156 rooms available for outstation guests |
| Venue and lawn hire | Rs 5 lakh to 15 lakh | 25,000 sq ft lawn plus indoor banquet spaces |
| Food and beverage | Rs 20 lakh to 60 lakh | Per plate published from around Rs 6,500, the dominant line |
| Decor and production | Rs 8 lakh to 30 lakh | Coastal setting; wind is a real production constraint |
| Entertainment | Rs 3 lakh to 15 lakh | Mumbai talent, short journey |
| Photography and film | Rs 5 lakh to 18 lakh | Mumbai crews |
| Guest transfers | Rs 3 lakh to 9 lakh | Ferry or road; see the access section |
Catering is the line that decides your total here. At Rs 6,500 a head, 400 guests across a sangeet, a wedding lunch and a reception is a very large number before anything else is bought. Negotiate per function rather than accepting a blanket rate, and get taxes stated separately. Our per-plate guide covers how these rates are constructed.
Capacity: two sets of numbers that cannot both be right
This property is listed with contradictory capacity figures, and the contradiction is large enough that planning against the wrong one would be a serious mistake.
| Source says | Capacity |
|---|---|
| Guest capacity | 200 to 450 |
| Indoor banquet hall | 2,000 seated, 3,000 floating |
| Two banquet halls | 140 and 250 |
| Outdoor lawn, 25,000 sq ft | Up to 1,000 |
A hall listed at both 250 and 2,000 in the same property description cannot be describing one room. The figures that look internally consistent are the two banquet halls at 140 and 250, and the 25,000 square foot lawn at up to 1,000, which is a plausible density for that area.
Plan against the lawn figure for a large function and the hall figures for anything indoors, and get both in writing with a floor plan. A family that books on the strength of a 2,000-seated banquet hall and arrives to find a 250-seat room has a problem no amount of production can solve.
The named spaces are the Chancellor hall, the Oval Room and the Grand Pinnacle Room, alongside the lawn. Ask which of those your quote covers and whether any are shared with other events on your dates.
Getting to Alibaug
Access is Alibaug’s defining feature and it has improved substantially, but it still needs planning.
- By road via the Atal Setu sea link, roughly ninety minutes to two hours from South Mumbai. This is now the default and it transformed Alibaug’s viability as a wedding destination.
- By ferry or catamaran from the Gateway of India to Mandwa, around an hour, then a short drive. Pleasant, and genuinely memorable as a guest arrival.
- By road around the bay, three hours or more, which is the fallback nobody wants.
The ferry is worth considering as part of the experience rather than merely as transport, and several families make the crossing a scheduled arrival event. The caution is weather: ferry services can be suspended in rough conditions, particularly during and around the monsoon, and a guest list stranded at the Gateway is a real failure mode. If you use the ferry, have a road plan and tell guests what it is.
The coastal setting, and what it costs you in production
Alibaug gives you the sea without Goa’s flights, and for a Mumbai family that is the entire appeal. Beaches here are quieter and less developed than Goa’s, and the resort belt around Varasoli and Mandwa has grown into a genuine luxury market.
Coastal weddings carry production constraints that hill and palace weddings do not, and they surprise families every season.
Wind is the main one. Sea breeze in the evening is pleasant for guests and hostile to tall floral installations, hanging decor, lightweight structures and open flames. Your decorator needs to design for wind rather than discover it at setup, and structures need proper weighting, which costs more than it does inland.
Salt air affects equipment and some AV vendors charge accordingly.
Humidity is high for much of the year, which matters for food service, floral freshness and how long guests will stay outdoors in the afternoon. Schedule the daytime functions early or late rather than in the middle of the day.
Season
November to February is the wedding window and the only one most families should consider. Pleasant, dry, and comfortable on the coast.
June to September is monsoon, and on the Konkan coast that means heavy sustained rain plus disrupted ferry services. Rates fall sharply and the reason is sound. Our monsoon guide covers the risk properly.
March to May is hot and humid, workable for evening functions and unpleasant in the afternoon.
Book eight to twelve months ahead for a peak weekend. Alibaug’s luxury supply is thinner than Lonavala’s and the best dates go early.
How it compares
- Versus Fariyas Lonavala: similar room counts, very different cost per head. Fariyas is materially cheaper on catering; Alibaug gives you the sea.
- Versus Hilton Shillim: Shillim is for an intimate wedding, Radisson Alibaug for a large one.
- Versus Goa: Goa has deeper venue choice, a stronger vendor market and better beaches, at the cost of flights for everyone. Alibaug is the version that keeps attendance high.
- Versus a Mumbai hotel: the city is easier and gives you an evening; Alibaug gives you a weekend with everyone in one place.
What to settle before signing
Settle the real seated capacity of every space you will use, with a floor plan, given the contradictory published figures.
Settle the per-plate by function with taxes stated. At Rs 6,500 upward this is the line that decides your budget.
Settle the transport plan, including what happens to the ferry contingency in bad weather and who pays for the road alternative.
Settle the wind and weather plan with your decorator and the venue together, not separately. A coastal lawn in November is lovely and it is still a lawn beside the sea.
Settle the room block release date and whether unsold rooms in a 156-key block are payable. Our venue selection guide covers the contract terms that matter, and to price this against your actual guest list, send us the details.
Where the rest of your guests will stay
156 rooms houses roughly 300 guests at double occupancy. For a 600-guest wedding, half your list is sleeping somewhere else, and in Alibaug that needs organising early.
Alibaug’s accommodation market is a mix of a few resorts and a large number of private villas, many of which are rented whole. Villas are genuinely good value for a group of family who want to stay together, and booking three or four of them for the extended family is a common and sensible pattern here. It is also entirely on you to organise; the resort will not do it.
Start that process at least six months out. Alibaug’s supply is thinner than Lonavala’s, peak weekends are contested by ordinary weekenders as well as weddings, and the good villas go first.
Then plan the shuttle. Guests spread across villas and a resort need moving to every function, and villa clusters are scattered rather than concentrated. This is a bigger transport operation than the same wedding in Lonavala and it should be costed as one.
Making the ferry work in your favour
The crossing from the Gateway of India is the one piece of Alibaug logistics that can be turned into an asset instead of a cost, and the families who do it well treat it as the opening function rather than as transport.
Book a block on a scheduled catamaran or charter a boat outright for a large group, put your welcome team and refreshments on board, and the journey becomes the first thing that happens at your wedding rather than the last obstacle before it. Guests arrive at Mandwa already together and already in the mood, which is a better start than a car park.
Two cautions, both worth taking seriously. Services can be suspended in rough weather with little notice, so a road plan and a named person responsible for triggering it is not optional. And the crossing plus the drive at the far end is longer than the timetable suggests once you add boarding and baggage for a large group, so build a generous buffer before the first function.
For elderly guests and anyone uneasy on water, offer the road route as a stated alternative rather than making them ask.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a wedding at Radisson Blu Alibaug cost?
Roughly Rs 50 lakh to Rs 1.5 crore for 300 to 600 guests over two days. Catering is the dominant line, with published per-plate rates from around Rs 6,500, which is what puts Alibaug above the Lonavala belt on cost per head.
How many rooms does Radisson Blu Alibaug have?
156 rooms available for outstation guests, which makes it the largest wedding property in Alibaug and capable of housing most of a 300-guest wedding on site.
How many guests can Radisson Blu Alibaug hold?
Published figures conflict badly, from 200 to 450 in one place to 2,000 seated in another. The internally consistent numbers are two banquet halls at 140 and 250, and a 25,000 square foot lawn holding up to 1,000. Get your spaces confirmed in writing with a floor plan.
How do guests get to Alibaug from Mumbai?
Ninety minutes to two hours by road via the Atal Setu sea link, or about an hour by ferry from the Gateway of India to Mandwa plus a short drive. Ferries can be suspended in rough weather, so always have a road plan and tell guests what it is.
What is the per plate cost at Radisson Blu Alibaug?
Published from around Rs 6,500, considerably above the Rs 1,300 to Rs 2,400 typical of the Lonavala hill resorts. Negotiate per function rather than accepting one blanket rate, and confirm whether taxes are included.
What production issues does a coastal venue create?
Wind is the main one: sea breeze is hostile to tall floral installations, hanging decor and open flames, so structures need proper weighting and the design has to allow for it. Salt air affects AV equipment and humidity affects food service and floral freshness.
Is Alibaug better than Goa for a wedding?
For a Mumbai guest list, often yes, because nobody needs a flight and attendance stays high. Goa has deeper venue choice, a stronger vendor market and better beaches, so it wins if your guests are travelling from across the country anyway.
Should we book villas as well as the resort?
For a wedding above about 300 guests, yes. 156 rooms houses roughly 300 at double occupancy, and Alibaug’s overflow market is mostly private villas rented whole. Booking three or four for extended family works well and is entirely your job to organise, so start at least six months out.
Is Alibaug workable during the monsoon?
Not really. The Konkan coast gets heavy sustained rain from June to September and ferry services are disrupted, so you would be running every function under cover with an unreliable guest arrival route. Rates fall sharply in those months and the reason is sound.
