The short answer
Budget Rs 30 lakh to Rs 90 lakh for a wedding at Taj Yeshwantpur, depending on guest count and the number of functions. A morning muhurtham and an evening reception for 400 guests with a small room block typically falls in the middle of that range; an 800-guest reception with a large block and premium decor approaches the top.
The hotel does not publish a per-plate rate, and the old directory figure of Rs 1,400 a plate dates from when the property was a Vivanta and should not be relied on. Bengaluru’s five-star hotels usually price weddings at Rs 2,500 to Rs 4,000 a plate per function once taxes and a full menu are included, and that is the band we plan with until the hotel quotes.
What Taj Yeshwantpur is
Taj Yeshwantpur stands in north-west Bengaluru near the Yeshwantpur railway junction and the Tumkur Road corridor. It opened in 2011 as Vivanta by Taj and now operates as a Taj hotel, with 327 rooms and suites according to its factsheet. It is one of the largest hotels in the city’s north, and its event spaces were built for conventions as well as weddings.
Its location suits families in north and west Bengaluru, and guests flying into Kempegowda International Airport, which lies to the north of the city, have a shorter drive than to hotels in the south.
Aura: the ballroom that decides the booking
Aura is the reason most couples look at Taj Yeshwantpur. According to Taj’s own figures it is a pillarless ballroom of about 749 square metres, 40 metres by 19 metres with a 6-metre ceiling, with capacity for up to 800 guests, a spacious pre-function area and an inner courtyard. It can also be divided into three smaller spaces.
Three things follow for a wedding:
- No pillars means clear sightlines to the stage from every table, which matters for a reception and for a large mandap.
- The 6-metre ceiling gives room for hanging installations, tall mandap structures and real stage lighting.
- The three-way split lets a smaller wedding use only part of the room, or run a mehndi in one section while the decor team builds the reception in another.
The 800 figure is the room’s maximum. A seated dinner with a stage, dance floor and buffet counters fits fewer, often 500 to 600. Ask for a floor plan for your exact layout. Our venue capacity study explains how much brochure capacity usually shrinks for a real wedding.
327 rooms: the room block
With 327 rooms, the hotel can absorb a large out-of-town block, a real advantage in Bengaluru, where many weddings bring families in from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Hold the block early on peak muhurtham dates and agree a release date for unused rooms. Our guide to wedding hotel room blocks covers how to size and negotiate one.
Where the money goes
| Line | Typical range, 500 guests, muhurtham plus reception | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Food and beverage | Rs 18 lakh to Rs 35 lakh | About 800 covers across two functions at Rs 2,500 to Rs 4,000 |
| Room block | Rs 5 lakh to Rs 15 lakh | 40 to 80 rooms for one or two nights |
| Decor and production | Rs 8 lakh to Rs 25 lakh | A mandap for the morning, a reception stage for the evening |
| Nadaswaram and entertainment | Rs 1 lakh to Rs 8 lakh | Traditional music for the muhurtham, DJ or band later |
| Photography and film | Rs 3 lakh to Rs 10 lakh | One or two days |
| Priest, rituals and flowers | Rs 1 lakh to Rs 4 lakh | Jasmine and garlands in volume |
These are our planning estimates for a Bengaluru five-star wedding of this size, not the hotel’s quotes.
Three worked budgets
| Wedding | Guests | Format | Indicative total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reception only | 300 | One evening in a section of Aura | Rs 20 lakh to Rs 35 lakh |
| Muhurtham and reception | 500 | Morning ceremony, evening reception, 50-room block | Rs 40 lakh to Rs 65 lakh |
| Large two-day wedding | 800 | Three functions, full Aura, 100-room block | Rs 65 lakh to Rs 90 lakh |
A South Indian wedding day at a hotel
Many Bengaluru weddings follow the South Indian pattern: a morning muhurtham, fixed to the minute by the priest, followed by a lunch, and a separate evening reception. In a hotel, that means turning the ballroom around in a few hours. Two approaches work at Taj Yeshwantpur:
- Split the ballroom. Hold the muhurtham in one section of Aura and build the reception in the others, so the decor team is never racing the clock.
- Use two spaces. Hold the muhurtham and lunch in a smaller space and keep Aura for the reception.
The rituals themselves, from the Kashi Yatra to the thali tying and the banana-leaf lunch, are covered in our guides to Kannada, Telugu and Tamil Brahmin weddings.
A muhurtham day, hour by hour
| Time | What happens | Planning note |
|---|---|---|
| Early morning | Families arrive, the groom’s Kashi Yatra | Rooms ready the night before for both families |
| Muhurtham | The thali tying, timed by the priest | Nadaswaram cued to the exact minute |
| Late morning | Rituals continue, guests greet the couple | A clear queue for blessings and photographs |
| Lunch | Banana-leaf wedding meal | Seating in batches for a large guest list |
| Afternoon | Rest, the decor team rebuilds | Use a second section of Aura to avoid a rush |
| Evening | Reception | Start late enough for city traffic |
Decor in a pillarless ballroom
A pillarless room with a 6-metre ceiling is a gift to a decorator. The mandap can be as tall as the design needs, hanging floral installations can fill the space above the guests, and nothing blocks the view of the stage. For a South Indian muhurtham, jasmine, marigold, banana stems and brass lamps create the traditional setting; for the evening, lighting does most of the work of changing the mood. Ask the hotel about rigging points, the weight limits for hanging pieces and the hours the room is free for setup.
Food at a Bengaluru wedding
A Bengaluru wedding often serves two very different meals in one day. The muhurtham lunch is traditional: a South Indian vegetarian meal on banana leaves, with dishes from the families’ home region. The reception dinner is broader, with North Indian, Chettinad, coastal and continental counters. Ask the hotel which regional menus its kitchen does well, whether a specialist traditional caterer can serve the banana-leaf lunch, and how many live counters it runs per hundred guests. Our guide to the per-plate cost of an Indian wedding explains how counters and taxes build the price.
Getting there
Yeshwantpur is well connected: the railway junction is close by, the Green Line of Namma Metro serves the area, and the drive from the airport in the north is shorter than to hotels in south Bengaluru, though always subject to traffic. For local guests, the main issue is evening traffic across the city, so start the reception late enough and make valet capacity part of the contract.
Season
Bengaluru’s mild climate means weddings happen all year, with the busiest season following the auspicious muhurtham dates, usually from November to February and again in spring. The monsoon from June to September brings rain, which matters only for outdoor areas such as the inner courtyard; Aura itself is unaffected. Our muhurat calendar lists the dates that book first.
Taj Yeshwantpur against other Bengaluru venues
- Against Taj West End: Taj West End offers historic gardens in the city centre at a higher price and smaller scale. Taj Yeshwantpur offers a larger ballroom and more rooms.
- Against The Leela Palace: the Leela is a grander palace-style hotel in east Bengaluru. Choose Taj Yeshwantpur for a north Bengaluru base and an 800-seat pillarless room.
- Against ITC Gardenia: a central business-district hotel. Compare ballroom sizes and room blocks for your guest list.
Our Bangalore wedding cost guide lays out the city’s full venue range.
Budget by guest count
| Guests | What usually changes | Indicative total |
|---|---|---|
| 300 | One section of Aura, small room block | Rs 20 lakh to Rs 40 lakh |
| 500 | Two sections or the full room, 50-room block | Rs 40 lakh to Rs 65 lakh |
| 800 | Full Aura, 100-room block, larger decor | Rs 65 lakh to Rs 90 lakh |
Food is the line that grows fastest with the guest count, because every guest eats at both the muhurtham lunch and the reception. Decor grows more slowly, since a ballroom of this size needs a full build whether 500 or 800 people fill it.
Families arriving from other states
Bengaluru weddings often bring relatives from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and beyond, many by train and some by road. Taj Yeshwantpur’s position near the railway junction helps: guests arriving at Yeshwantpur station have a short transfer. Put a hospitality desk in the lobby for the wedding days, with a list of arrivals, room assignments and the function timings, and give elderly relatives rooms close to the lifts.
Who Taj Yeshwantpur suits
It suits large Bengaluru weddings of 400 to 800 guests that need one big, pillarless room, a sizeable room block for families from out of town, and an address convenient for north and west Bengaluru and the airport. Couples who want gardens, heritage architecture or a destination atmosphere will find better fits elsewhere in the city or in nearby resorts.
