Bangkok is where Thailand’s biggest Indian weddings happen. Its hotels publish ballrooms seating 400 to 1,000 at round tables, and Centara Grand’s convention centre at CentralWorld charts 3,400 seated. Direct flights connect it to most Indian metros, and the riverside hotels on the Chao Phraya give a city wedding a setting of its own. Because the big events are indoors, Bangkok also works in the rainy season.
Bangkok is rarely a couple’s first thought for a Thailand wedding, because the images people share are of beaches. It becomes the obvious answer as soon as the guest list passes 350, because no beach resort in the country can seat that many at round tables without splitting functions. Bangkok also works well as one half of a two-part wedding: a city reception for the full guest list, and a smaller beach ceremony for close family. This guide covers the hotels, their published capacity, the riverside option and how to plan around the city’s traffic and weather.
For budget ranges, see our Thailand wedding cost guide.
Why Bangkok for an Indian wedding
- Capacity no beach resort can match. Ballrooms for 400 to 1,000 seated, and convention space beyond that.
- Room stock. The major hotels have 350 to 800 rooms each, with more next door.
- The easiest flights. Most Indian metros have direct flights to Bangkok, and guests arrive without a connection.
- Weather-proof. The main functions happen indoors, so the rainy months matter less.
- Things for guests to do. Shopping, food and river trips fill the free hours of a multi-day wedding.
Bangkok hotels and their published event space
Figures come from each hotel’s published event chart on Cvent, checked in September 2026. “Seated” is guests at round tables, the layout for an Indian reception.
| Hotel | Largest seated space | Seated at rounds | Standing maximum | Guest rooms |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Centara Grand and Bangkok Convention Centre at CentralWorld | Convention Centre | 3,400 | 6,000 | 505 |
| Shangri-La Bangkok | Grand Ballroom | 1,000 | 1,600 | 802 |
| The Riverside Convention Complex at Anantara and Avani Bangkok | Grand Riverside Ballroom | 720 | 1,200 | 626 |
| Conrad Bangkok | Ballroom | 550 | 1,000 | 391 |
| JW Marriott Hotel Bangkok | Sukhumvit Grand Ballroom with Sukhumvit View | 550 | 550 | 441 |
| Siam Kempinski Hotel Bangkok | Chadra Ballroom | 450 | 1,200 | 397 |
| The Peninsula Bangkok | Sakuntala Ballroom A and B | 420 | 800 | 367 |
Charts change as hotels renovate. Use these to shortlist and ask each hotel for its current chart. Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok also has a large ballroom, but its published chart lists fewer spaces than the hotel says it has, so we have not repeated its figures.
What the numbers tell you
- Look at the gap between seated and standing. Siam Kempinski’s Chadra Ballroom holds 1,200 standing but 450 seated. A reception planned on the bigger number will not fit. Our capacity gap study shows how common this is.
- Shangri-La is the largest hotel ballroom here, with 1,000 seated and the most rooms, 802, which keeps a very large wedding under one roof.
- The convention centre is in a different category. At 3,400 seated, it suits the rare wedding that needs a hall of that size, and it can also be divided.
- Room counts match the ballrooms better than at the beach. Most of these hotels have more rooms than their largest room seats, which is rare at destination venues, as our room block study explains.
A riverside wedding
Several of Bangkok’s best-known hotels sit on the Chao Phraya River, including Shangri-La, The Peninsula and the Anantara and Avani riverside complex. For an Indian wedding that is more than a view. A riverside lawn or terrace can host a mehendi or a pheras with the city lights behind it, and some couples add a river cruise for close family. The Peninsula, for example, charts a riverside lawn seating 200. Ask about noise limits for outdoor spaces and a rain plan for the months between May and October.
A large Indian wedding in Bangkok?
Tell us your guest count and we will match it to a ballroom that seats it and a hotel that sleeps it, with the riverside and beach options costed side by side.
Getting around a big city
| Issue | What to plan |
|---|---|
| Two airports | Suvarnabhumi handles most full-service flights; some low-cost flights use Don Mueang. Tell guests which airport their flight uses |
| Traffic | Keep all functions in one hotel, or allow generous buffers between venues |
| Guest movement | Riverside hotels can use boats; city hotels near rail lines are easier for guests on free days |
| Baraat | Plan it within the hotel’s grounds or driveway; a procession on public roads needs separate permission |
Bangkok is also where most guests clear immigration, so make sure every guest knows the current visa-free limit and has filed the digital arrival card; our Thailand legal and entry guide keeps both up to date.
When to marry in Bangkok
Bangkok is hot all year. November to February is the most comfortable period and the busiest for weddings. March to May is the hottest stretch, and the rainy season runs mainly from May to October. Because the main events are indoors, Bangkok is one of the best Thai options for a wedding in the wetter months, provided outdoor functions have an indoor alternative.
The two-part wedding: Bangkok and the beach
Families with a large guest list and a wish for a beach ceremony often split the wedding.
| Part | Where | Who |
|---|---|---|
| Haldi, mehendi and pheras | A beach resort in Hua Hin or Pattaya, both reachable by road | Close family and friends |
| Sangeet and reception | A Bangkok ballroom | The full guest list |
Road access makes this work. Our guides to Hua Hin and Pattaya cover the beach half, and Phuket covers the island option with its own direct flights.
What a Bangkok wedding costs
The ranges in our Thailand cost guide apply. Bangkok saves on guest travel, because most guests fly direct, and on production, because equipment and crews are local. Hotel ballroom packages are usually priced per head with minimum spends, and Thai hotel quotes are typically shown before service charge and VAT, so compare full figures.
Running the functions
| Function | Bangkok setting | Check |
|---|---|---|
| Haldi and mehendi | A pool deck, terrace or riverside lawn | Turmeric rules and shade |
| Sangeet | A ballroom section | Stage, rigging and sound |
| Pheras | A riverside lawn or ballroom mandap | Permission for the havan fire indoors or outdoors |
| Reception | The main ballroom | Seated figure at rounds and the finishing time |
Bangkok’s hotel districts
| District | Character | For a wedding |
|---|---|---|
| Riverside | Hotels on the Chao Phraya, with river views and boat access | The most atmospheric setting, with riverside lawns for smaller functions |
| Ratchaprasong and Siam | The shopping heart, with rail connections | Guests who want to shop on free days |
| Sukhumvit | A long corridor of hotels, restaurants and rail stations | Plenty of overflow rooms at many price points |
| Silom and Sathorn | The business district | Large ballrooms and easy rail access |
Running a very large wedding
Bangkok is where weddings of 500 to 1,000 guests become straightforward, but the operation needs its own planning.
- Arrival flow. A registration desk, seating plan and ushers for the reception.
- Food at scale. Confirm how many kitchens will serve, how Indian food will be prepared, and how Jain and vegetarian dishes will be kept separate.
- Coaches and parking. City hotels have limited coach bays, so stagger arrivals.
- Rooms. Even an 800-room hotel may be busy with other guests, so agree the block early and name a second hotel nearby.
- Timings. Ballrooms often have finishing times, so plan the reception to end on schedule.
Keeping guests busy
Bangkok gives guests more to do than any other Thai destination: the Grand Palace and Wat Arun, a dinner cruise on the river, the markets and the malls. Offer one organised outing on the free day and let guests explore the rest on their own.
Photographs in Bangkok
Bangkok’s temples and riverfront make memorable portraits. Wat Arun seen across the Chao Phraya at sunset is the classic image, and a private boat lets a couple and photographer move between riverside viewpoints without traffic. Temples require modest dress and may restrict professional photography, so check each site before planning a shoot there, and dress for it. For drone shots, confirm registration and the local rules, which are strict in the city.
Questions to ask a Bangkok hotel
| Ask the resort | Why it matters here |
|---|---|
| What is the seated figure for our layout with a stage and dance floor? | City ballrooms publish large standing figures that do not apply to a seated dinner |
| How many coaches can your forecourt handle at once? | Traffic and limited bays can delay a whole group |
| Can an outside Indian caterer work in your kitchen, and on what terms? | Many hotels have their own Indian chefs but charge for outside catering |
| Is an indoor havan fire permitted, and with what safety setup? | Ballroom fire rules decide where the pheras can happen |
| What other large events share the hotel on our dates? | A conference in the next ballroom changes the atmosphere |
| What room block can you hold, and until when? | City hotels sell rooms quickly, so release dates matter |
Indian food in Bangkok
Bangkok has the widest choice of Indian food in Thailand, from hotel kitchens with Indian chefs to independent caterers used to large functions. That choice makes it the easiest Thai destination for regional menus, whether a Gujarati thali, a South Indian breakfast or a Punjabi reception spread. Ask the hotel which of these its kitchen can produce itself, and on what terms it accepts an outside caterer. For very large receptions, confirm how the food will stay hot across a big room, and how Jain and vegetarian service will be kept apart.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which Bangkok hotel can host the biggest Indian wedding?
Among hotels with complete published charts, Shangri-La Bangkok has the largest hotel ballroom, seating 1,000 at round tables, with 802 rooms. For weddings beyond that, Centara Grand’s convention centre at CentralWorld charts 3,400 seated.
Is Bangkok a good place for an Indian wedding?
For large weddings, yes. Bangkok has the biggest ballrooms in Thailand, direct flights from most Indian metros and indoor venues that work in any season. Many couples pair a Bangkok reception with a beach ceremony in Hua Hin or Pattaya.
Can we have a riverside wedding in Bangkok?
Yes. Hotels on the Chao Phraya, including Shangri-La, The Peninsula and the Anantara and Avani riverside complex, have lawns and terraces for smaller functions such as mehendi or the pheras. Ask about noise limits and a rain plan.
When is the best time for a Bangkok wedding?
November to February is the most comfortable. Because the main events are indoors, Bangkok also suits the rainy months better than beach destinations.
Can we hold a baraat in Bangkok?
Usually within the hotel’s grounds or driveway. A procession on public roads needs separate permission, so plan the route with the hotel.
