Pattaya is Thailand’s big-wedding beach town, about an hour and a half by road from Suvarnabhumi airport. Centara Grand Mirage charts 650 seated at round tables with 555 rooms, and the Royal Cliff group has four hotels with over 1,020 rooms and its own convention hall. For Indian weddings of 400 or more by the sea, Pattaya is the natural choice.
Pattaya has a reputation as a party town, and plenty of families dismiss it for that reason. For a large Indian wedding, it deserves a second look. It is the closest beach destination to Bangkok, it has resort groups built around convention space, and its biggest properties can seat and sleep a guest list that no Thai island resort can. This guide covers the access, the weather, the venues and their published capacity, and how to plan a Pattaya wedding that feels like a resort celebration rather than a city event.
Budget ranges for all of Thailand are in our Thailand wedding cost guide.
Why Pattaya for a large Indian wedding
- Scale. Ballrooms for 350 to 650 seated, and in the Royal Cliff group’s case a dedicated convention hall.
- Rooms in one place. Resorts with 250 to over 500 rooms, and a four-hotel group with over 1,020 between them.
- Short transfer. About an hour and a half by road from Suvarnabhumi, the shortest beach transfer from Bangkok.
- Experience with Indian events. Several resorts market Indian weddings directly and are used to multi-day functions.
Getting there
| Leg | How | Note |
|---|---|---|
| India to Bangkok | Direct flights from most major Indian cities to Suvarnabhumi | Suvarnabhumi is on the Pattaya side of the city |
| Suvarnabhumi to Pattaya | Road transfer, about an hour and a half | Coaches for groups, cars for family |
| U-Tapao airport | Serves Pattaya but with few relevant connections | Most Indian guests are better off via Bangkok |
For entry, remind guests of two things: the 30-day visa-free limit that applies from mid-September 2026, and the digital arrival card due in the three days before landing. Our legal and entry guide for Thailand explains both.
When to marry in Pattaya
Pattaya is on the eastern Gulf coast. November to February is the most comfortable period, with dry weather and cooler evenings. March to May is hot, and the rainy months fall mainly between May and October, when outdoor functions need an indoor backup. Because Pattaya’s large venues are indoors, a wet-season wedding is easier to run here than on an island.
| Months | Conditions | Planning note |
|---|---|---|
| November to February | Dry and comfortable | Peak demand, book early |
| March to May | Hot | Keep daytime functions indoors or shaded |
| May to October | Rainy season | Use the ballrooms; beach events need a backup |
Pattaya venues and their published event space
Figures below come from each resort’s published event chart on Cvent, checked in September 2026. “Seated” means guests at round tables.
| Resort | Largest seated space | Seated at rounds | Standing maximum | Guest rooms |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Centara Grand Mirage Beach Resort Pattaya | Mirage Grand Ballroom | 650 | 1,200 | 555 |
| Cape Dara Resort | Vela Grand Ballroom | 350 | not published reliably | 264 |
| Avani Pattaya Resort and Spa | Ballroom | 200 | 300 | 300 |
| InterContinental Pattaya Resort | Phratamnak Ballroom, with a beachfront space of the same seated size | 200 | 260 | 156 |
Cape Dara’s chart gives its ballroom a standing figure that is impossible for its floor area, so we show only the seated number. Centara Grand Mirage also charts a Beach Garden and a Pre Garden at 300 seated each, useful for mehendi and haldi.
The Royal Cliff group
The Royal Cliff Hotels Group runs four hotels on its own headland: Royal Cliff Beach Hotel, Royal Cliff Grand Hotel, Royal Cliff Beach Terrace and Royal Wing Suites and Spa, with over 1,020 rooms between them. It also runs the Pattaya Exhibition and Convention Hall, known as PEACH, which the group says can host up to 10,000 guests, and it markets Indian weddings directly. Its published Cvent chart is incomplete, so ask the group for current seated figures for the specific hall you want.
What the numbers mean
- 650 seated is the largest beach-resort ballroom we found in Thailand. Only Bangkok’s convention hotels chart more.
- Centara Grand Mirage can seat and sleep a big wedding. 555 rooms against 650 seated is a far closer match than most destination venues manage, as our room block study shows.
- InterContinental is the boutique option, with 156 rooms and 200 seated in a more private setting.
A 400-guest wedding by the sea?
Pattaya is one of the few Thai beach destinations where that works. Tell us your guest list and we will match it to the right property.
Matching a venue to your guest list
| Reception guests | Where to start |
|---|---|
| Up to 200 | InterContinental Pattaya or Avani Pattaya |
| 200 to 350 | Cape Dara, or the Centara Grand Mirage gardens and ballroom sections |
| 350 to 650 | Centara Grand Mirage |
| More than 650 | The Royal Cliff group, or a Bangkok convention hotel |
Making Pattaya feel like a resort wedding
Families worry about Pattaya’s nightlife. In practice, a wedding that stays inside a large resort, or on the Royal Cliff headland, rarely touches it. Keep guests on one property, run transfers rather than leaving guests to find taxis, and schedule the evening functions so the celebration is where the energy is. Younger guests who want a night out can have one, on their own time.
What a Pattaya wedding costs
The ranges in our Thailand cost guide apply. Pattaya’s advantages are the short road transfer, which avoids domestic flights, and large resorts that can host every function without hiring outside structures. As everywhere in Thailand, hotel quotes are usually shown before service charge and VAT, so compare the full figure.
Running the functions
| Function | Typical Pattaya setting | Check |
|---|---|---|
| Haldi and mehendi | Resort gardens or poolside | Turmeric and henna rules |
| Sangeet | A ballroom section | Stage, sound and the finishing time |
| Baraat | The resort driveway or grounds | Route and any rule on public roads |
| Pheras | A beach or garden mandap | Fire permission and a rain plan |
| Reception | The main ballroom | Seated figure at rounds |
A three-day Pattaya plan
| Day | Daytime | Evening |
|---|---|---|
| Arrival | Flights into Suvarnabhumi, coaches to Pattaya | Welcome dinner |
| Day two | Haldi in the gardens | Mehendi and sangeet |
| Day three | Baraat and pheras | Reception in the grand ballroom |

Pattaya’s areas
| Area | Character | For a wedding |
|---|---|---|
| Naklua and Wongamat | North of the centre, quieter beaches and large resorts | Big weddings away from the busiest streets |
| Pratumnak Hill | Between Pattaya and Jomtien, with hillside and headland resorts | Views and a more private setting |
| Central Pattaya | The main beach and nightlife | Convenient, but the least private |
| Jomtien and Na Jomtien | A long, calmer beach to the south | Relaxed stays and overflow rooms |
What changes at 500 guests and above
A very large wedding is a different operation, and Pattaya is one of the few Thai beach towns where it is possible. Plan for these from the start:
- Registration and seating. A welcome desk, a seating plan and ushers, because guests cannot find their own tables in a room of 600.
- Kitchens. Confirm how the resort will serve the full number hot and on time, and whether an Indian caterer will work alongside the hotel kitchen.
- Arrivals. Coaches in waves, with a luggage plan and a hospitality desk in the lobby.
- Security and access. A guest list at the ballroom door, and a plan for vendors’ entry and loading.
- Rooms across properties. Even 555 rooms may not cover everyone, so agree a second hotel and a shuttle.
Keeping guests busy
Pattaya gives families easy half-day outings between functions: the carved wooden Sanctuary of Truth in Naklua, Nong Nooch Tropical Garden to the south, and a boat trip to Koh Larn island. Organise one or two for the group, and keep the timings well clear of the evening functions.
Photographs in and around Pattaya
The Sanctuary of Truth in Naklua, a vast carved wooden temple by the sea, is Pattaya’s best-known portrait location, and it usually requires paid entry and advance arrangement for professional shoots. The viewpoint on Pratumnak Hill looks over the whole bay, and the beaches of Koh Larn make a clear-water alternative for a half day. Keep portraits to the cooler morning or golden hour, and check drone rules and registration with your photographer.
Questions to ask a Pattaya resort
| Ask the resort | Why it matters here |
|---|---|
| What is the seated figure for our layout, with stage and dance floor? | Big ballrooms lose capacity quickly once staging is added |
| How many service staff will you assign per table? | Service speed decides whether a 600-guest dinner feels premium |
| Can an outside Indian caterer work alongside your kitchen? | Large weddings often need both |
| How will you handle coach arrivals and luggage? | Hundreds of guests may arrive within a few hours |
| Which other events are in the hotel on our dates? | A shared resort changes the feel of the lobby and pool |
| What is the finishing time for the ballroom? | Receptions for large families tend to run long |
Indian food in Pattaya
Pattaya’s large resorts serve Indian weddings often, and its closeness to Bangkok means Indian caterers and ingredients can come by road. For a wedding of several hundred guests, agree early which dishes the hotel kitchen will cook and which an outside caterer will handle, and how many serving stations the ballroom needs so the queue never builds. Ask how Jain and pure vegetarian food will be prepared and served separately.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Pattaya good for an Indian wedding?
For large weddings, yes. Pattaya’s resorts publish the biggest beach-resort ballrooms we found in Thailand, up to 650 seated at Centara Grand Mirage, and it is about an hour and a half by road from Bangkok’s main airport.
How far is Pattaya from Bangkok airport?
About an hour and a half by road from Suvarnabhumi, depending on traffic. Most wedding groups travel by chartered coach.
Which Pattaya venue can host the biggest wedding?
Among resorts with complete published charts, Centara Grand Mirage Beach Resort seats 650 at round tables in its grand ballroom and has 555 rooms. The Royal Cliff group says its convention hall can host up to 10,000 guests; ask it for seated figures.
When is the best time for a Pattaya wedding?
November to February, when it is dry and comfortable. The rainy season falls mainly between May and October, when Pattaya’s large indoor ballrooms make a wedding easier to run than on an island.
Will Pattaya’s nightlife affect the wedding?
Rarely, if the wedding stays inside one large resort with organised transfers. Several of the resorts that host Indian weddings, such as those on the Royal Cliff headland and in Naklua, sit away from the busiest nightlife streets; ask about the surroundings before you book.
