For a bachelorette or bachelor trip from India, Macau suits a glamorous resort-and-casino weekend, Bangkok suits nightlife and value, Dubai suits luxury and spectacle, Bali suits a slower villa-and-beach trip, and Goa suits a group that wants to skip passports altogether. Flight time, entry rules and how many days the group can spare usually decide it.

How to choose, before you choose a place

Most lists of bachelorette destinations start with the photographs. A better start is three practical questions, because they rule out half the options before anyone looks at a pool. How many days can everyone take? Does everyone hold a valid passport? And is this a weekend of nights out, of rest, or of both?

A group that can manage only two or three days needs a destination that is quick to reach and dense with things to do. A group with five days can go further and slower. A group where two people lack passports should look at Goa first. The rest of this guide compares the five destinations Indian groups ask us about most.

The five, side by side

DestinationGetting there from IndiaEntry for Indian passportsBest for
MacauUsually via Hong Kong, or direct by private charterVisa-free for up to 30 daysA glamorous resort weekend with shows and a casino evening
Bangkok and ThailandAround four hours direct from most metrosVisa-free for 30 daysNightlife, food, shopping and value
DubaiAround three to four hours directMost need a visa arranged in advance; some qualify on arrivalLuxury hotels, brunches, desert evenings and spectacle
BaliThe longest of the five, often with a connectionVisa on arrival for 30 days, IDR 500,000Villas, beaches and a slower pace
GoaA short domestic flightNo passport neededBeaches, parties and a group where not everyone travels abroad

Entry rules change, so confirm them for every traveller close to the date. For Thailand and Bali, the figures above are the ones we track for our Thailand and Bali wedding guides.

Macau: the Las Vegas of Asia

Macau is the most concentrated of the five. Its Cotai strip packs hotels, spas, restaurants, shows, malls and casinos into a single walkable stretch, so a two-day trip can be full without a single long transfer. Add an afternoon in the old city, a UNESCO-listed Portuguese quarter, and the trip has two completely different looks. Indian passport holders need no visa for stays of up to 30 days.

The trade-off is access: most travellers connect through Hong Kong. That is why we built our Macau trip around a private chartered flight, which removes the connection and makes two days enough. Remember that Macau’s casinos admit only those aged 21 and over.

Bangkok and Thailand: nightlife and value

Bangkok is the easy, energetic choice. Direct flights take around four hours from most Indian metros, Indian passport holders can enter visa-free for 30 days, and the city delivers rooftop bars, markets, food, spas and shopping at prices that stretch a group budget. Groups with an extra day often add a beach, with Pattaya close by and Phuket a short flight away. Casinos are not part of the Thai offer, so this is a trip built on nights out and food rather than gaming.

Dubai: luxury and spectacle

Dubai is short to reach and built for celebration on a grand scale: famous Friday brunches, beach clubs, desert dinners and some of the most striking hotels in the world. The main planning point is entry. Most Indian passport holders need a visa arranged in advance, although some travellers with certain other visas or residence permits qualify for a visa on arrival, so check each person’s eligibility early. There are no casinos, and alcohol is served in licensed venues such as hotels.

Bali: the slow, beautiful option

Bali suits a group that wants rest as much as celebration: a private villa with a pool, spa afternoons, beach clubs and sunsets. It is the longest journey of the five, often with a connection, so it works best with four or five days rather than two. Indian passport holders can get a visa on arrival for 30 days. The island’s Hindu culture also gives the trip a sense of place that the other destinations do not.

Goa: when not everyone has a passport

Goa is the answer when the group is large, the time is short, or some friends do not travel abroad. A short domestic flight, beach shacks and clubs, villas with pools and a party season from November to February make it a reliable choice. It also has casinos, including on the river in Panaji, for anyone who wants a gaming evening without leaving India. The trade-off is that it feels less like an occasion than a trip abroad, which matters to some brides and grooms and not at all to others.

When to go

Most bachelorette and bachelor trips happen two to three months before the wedding. For a winter wedding in India, that puts the trip in the autumn, which suits Macau’s most comfortable season from October to December and the start of Goa’s party season. Thailand’s main dry season runs from November to February. Bali is driest from April to October. Dubai is most pleasant from November to March and very hot in summer.

Budgeting fairly for a group

The biggest source of friction on these trips is money, not destinations. Agree three things before anyone books: who pays for the bride or groom, how shared costs such as the villa or the big dinner are split, and what each person is comfortable spending on their own extras. A destination that stretches one friend’s budget can quietly spoil the weekend for everyone, so choose with the whole group’s means in mind, not the most enthusiastic member’s.

Cost levels, compared

Exact prices move with dates, hotels and group size, but the five sit at clearly different levels. Goa and Bangkok are the most affordable for the same standard of hotel and nights out, which is a large part of their popularity. Bali sits in the middle, with villas that can be good value for a group sharing. Dubai and Macau are at the upper end, with luxury hotels and dining that reflect their reputations. A private charter is a premium on top of any destination, but for a short trip it buys back the time the group would otherwise lose to connections.

Group size: where each one works

8 to 20All five, with hotel blocks or large villasVilla capacity in Bali and Goa; aircraft size on a charter
20 and aboveMacau, Bangkok, Dubai and Goa hotelsBali villas; booking restaurants for a big table

The larger the group, the more a single hotel or resort matters. Keeping everyone under one roof is the difference between a trip and a series of taxi queues.

Pairing the trip with a pre-wedding shoot

Some couples use a trip abroad for their pre-wedding photographs as well. That works best as a separate day with just the couple and the photographer, rather than squeezed into the group weekend. Our pre-wedding photoshoot cost guide covers what a destination shoot costs and how long it needs.

The documents question, early

Every international option needs a valid passport for every traveller, and some need a visa arranged in advance. Collect passport details and expiry dates from the whole group as soon as the idea is floated, before anyone falls in love with a place. One person who needs a passport renewed, or a visa that takes weeks, can decide the destination by themselves.

Making any of them feel personal

Whatever the destination, the same few touches make the trip: a shared theme or colour for one evening, messages from family members who could not come, a photographer so the friends appear in the pictures, and one long meal where the group simply sits together. The bride or groom should own none of the logistics; the maid of honour or best man owns the personal side, and someone else owns the bookings.

The questions to ask before booking anywhere

  • Does every member of the group hold a passport valid well beyond the trip, and does anyone need a visa arranged in advance?
  • How many days can the least flexible person take off work?
  • Is the group’s priority nights out, rest, food, or a mix, and does the destination deliver it in the time available?
  • Can everyone stay under one roof, so the evenings do not depend on transport?
  • Does the budget work for the whole group, not just the most enthusiastic member?

A destination that passes all five is the right one, whatever it looks like on social media.

How it fits the wedding calendar

Check the trip against your fittings, your venue visits and any pre-wedding functions at home. A trip that lands in the same week as a final lehenga fitting or a muhurat consultation causes stress that no spa day undoes. Our wedding planning timeline shows where the trip usually fits, and our guest guide covers how to brief a group for travel.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best bachelorette destination abroad from India?

It depends on time and taste. Macau suits a glamorous two-day resort weekend, Bangkok suits nightlife and value, Dubai suits luxury and brunches, Bali suits a slower villa trip, and Goa suits a group that cannot all travel abroad.

Which bachelorette destination needs no visa for Indians?

Macau allows visa-free stays of up to 30 days and Thailand allows visa-free entry for 30 days. Bali offers visa on arrival. Dubai usually needs a visa arranged in advance, and Goa needs no passport at all.

Where can we go for a two-day bachelorette from India?

Dubai and Goa are short flights, and Macau works in two days with a private chartered flight that avoids the usual connection through Hong Kong. Bali is better with four or five days.

Which destinations have casinos?

Macau, where casinos admit only those aged 21 and over, and Goa, which has casinos including on the river in Panaji. Thailand, Dubai and Bali do not offer casino gaming to visitors.

Which is the cheapest bachelorette destination abroad from India?

Bangkok is usually the best value of the overseas options for the same standard of hotel and nights out. Goa is the most affordable overall because it needs no international flight or passport.

How far ahead should we plan a bachelorette trip abroad?

Two to three months for most trips, longer for a large group, a peak weekend or a private charter, and early enough to check every passport and arrange any visas.

Is Macau or Dubai better for a luxury bachelorette?

Both suit a luxury weekend. Macau concentrates resorts, shows, spas and a casino evening into a walkable strip and needs no visa for Indians; Dubai offers famous brunches, beach clubs and desert evenings but usually needs a visa arranged in advance and has no casinos.

Do these destinations work for a bachelor party too?

Yes. All five work for the groom’s group as well, usually with more weight on nights out, long dinners and, in Macau or Goa, a casino evening.
