A wedding at Welcomhotel by ITC Hotels, The Savoy, Mussoorie typically runs Rs 50 lakh to Rs 1.2 crore for 150 to 300 guests over two days. It is a historic hill hotel on the edge of Mussoorie’s Mall Road with 80 rooms, a Grand Ballroom listed for 500 and lawns listed for up to 1,000, which makes it one of the few Mussoorie venues that can host a large destination wedding.

The short answer
Budget Rs 50 lakh to Rs 1.2 crore for a two-day wedding at the Savoy with 150 to 300 guests. A wedding of about 150 guests that fills the hotel’s 80 rooms sits near the lower end; a 300-guest wedding with an overflow hotel, a lawn sangeet and a ballroom reception approaches the top.
The hotel does not publish a per-plate rate. Luxury hill-station weddings in Uttarakhand usually price at Rs 3,000 to Rs 5,000 a plate per function once taxes and a full menu are included, and we plan with that band until the hotel quotes.
What the Savoy is
The Savoy is one of Mussoorie’s most famous old hotels, a grand colonial-era building set in gardens near the Library end of the Mall Road, with views over the hills. It now operates as Welcomhotel by ITC Hotels, The Savoy, and combines its heritage architecture with a modern luxury hotel’s facilities. For a wedding, it gives something rare in a hill station: lawns and a ballroom big enough for a destination wedding, in a building with real history.
Rooms: 80
Directories list 80 rooms, which house about 150 guests at double occupancy. That sets the natural size of a Savoy wedding at around 150 guests all on site. For a larger wedding, Mussoorie’s other hotels along the Mall Road and in Landour can take the overflow, but hill roads and limited parking make shuttles slower than in a city, so keep the second hotel as close as possible. Our guide to wedding hotel room blocks covers what to negotiate.
The event spaces
| Space | Capacity listed | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Outdoor lawns | Up to 1,000 | Spalba |
| Central Lawn | Up to 500, about 16,146 sq ft | Spalba |
| Grand Ballroom | Up to 500 | Spalba |
The two lawn figures do not agree, probably because one counts all the lawns and the other only the Central Lawn. A seated wedding dinner fits fewer than either figure, so ask the hotel for a floor plan for your guest count. Our venue capacity study explains how brochure numbers shrink for a real wedding.
Where the money goes
| Line | Typical range, 200 guests, two nights | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Rooms, 2 nights | Rs 12 lakh to Rs 30 lakh | 80 rooms plus an overflow hotel |
| Food and beverage | Rs 18 lakh to Rs 35 lakh | Four functions at Rs 3,000 to Rs 5,000 a plate, plus resident meals |
| Bar | Rs 4 lakh to Rs 12 lakh | Two evenings |
| Decor and production | Rs 10 lakh to Rs 30 lakh | Vendors often come up from Dehradun or Delhi |
| Entertainment | Rs 3 lakh to Rs 12 lakh | A sangeet act, a DJ, Pahari folk musicians |
| Photography and film | Rs 4 lakh to Rs 12 lakh | Two days plus travel |
| Transfers | Rs 2 lakh to Rs 6 lakh | Dehradun airport and station, mountain roads |
These are our planning estimates for a luxury hill-station wedding of this size, not the hotel’s quotes.

Getting there
Most guests fly into Jolly Grant Airport at Dehradun or take the train to Dehradun, then drive up to Mussoorie on a winding hill road, usually an hour and a half to two hours from the airport depending on traffic. Schedule arrivals in daylight, because mountain roads are slower after dark, and give older guests comfortable cars rather than coaches. The Mall Road area itself has limited vehicle access and parking, so ask the hotel how guests are dropped at the entrance.
Season and weather
The best months are October to mid-December and March to June, when days are clear and evenings cool. Late December to February is cold, sometimes with snow in the hills, which can be magical for photographs but complicates outdoor functions and roads. The monsoon from July to September brings heavy rain, mist and occasional landslides that can block the road from Dehradun, so it is the riskiest time for a wedding. Every lawn function needs a ballroom fallback. Our muhurat calendar lists the auspicious dates.
Food in the hills
A destination wedding feeds guests for two days, so plan resident breakfasts and lunches as well as the functions. A North Indian spread is expected, and a Pahari or Garhwali dish or two, such as kafuli or aloo ke gutke, gives the menu a sense of place. Ask the hotel how many live counters it runs on the lawns on a cold evening and how food is kept hot outdoors. Our guide to the per-plate cost of an Indian wedding explains how menus and taxes add up.
Decor and the hill setting
The Savoy’s colonial architecture and the hills behind it need little help. Warm lighting on the facade and lawns, lanterns, and flowers in soft colours suit the setting better than heavy installations, which also have to travel up the hill road. Ask the hotel about setup hours and what can be attached to the heritage building, and plan the heaters and a covered area into the decor from the start.
Photography
Mussoorie’s views, the old hotel and the misty hills make for memorable photographs, especially in the early morning and the hour before sunset. A short walk to Landour’s quiet lanes and old churches gives a second set of backdrops. Mist can roll in quickly, so build flexible time into the portrait session.
Guests between functions
Mussoorie gives guests plenty to do: a walk along the Mall Road, a cable car up Gun Hill, the cafes and bakeries of Landour, and views of the snow peaks on clear mornings. Build one free morning into the wedding and let guests explore.
Rooms for the families
With 80 rooms, allocate the best hill-view rooms to both families and close elders, keep a suite as the bride’s dressing room near the lawn, and put guests with mobility needs close to the lifts and event spaces, because hill hotels often have steps and slopes.
Budgeting a hill wedding sensibly
Hill weddings carry costs that city weddings do not. Every vendor, from the decorator to the sound team and extra catering staff, usually travels up from Dehradun or Delhi and charges for the journey and a night’s stay. Fix the guest list early, because adding guests later means finding more rooms in a small town in peak season. Keep the decor light and let the setting work, and agree every menu, including resident meals, in the first quote.
Combining traditions
Mussoorie draws families from across North India and the diaspora. A Punjabi family’s sangeet, a Garhwali family’s mangal geet, a Sikh Anand Karaj at a gurdwara in town, or a church blessing at one of Landour’s old churches can all sit alongside a celebration at the hotel. Agree each family’s rituals and the order of the two days early, and give each side the function that matters most to it.
Small weddings in the hills
Not every Savoy wedding needs the full lawn. A wedding of 60 to 100 close family and friends can take part of the hotel, hold the ceremony on a smaller lawn with the hills behind, and keep the Grand Ballroom for a cosy dinner. It costs far less than a full destination wedding and suits couples who want the setting without the scale.
The Savoy against other Uttarakhand venues
- Against JW Marriott Mussoorie: a modern luxury resort near Kempty Falls with more rooms; the Savoy offers heritage near the Mall Road.
- Against Taj Rishikesh: a riverside resort in the valley; Mussoorie gives the hill-station setting and cooler climate.
- Against Dehradun venues: easier to reach and cheaper, but without the hills.
Our guide to Kumaoni and Garhwali wedding traditions covers the region’s own customs.
Music and the finishing time
Mussoorie’s Mall Road area is busy with hotels, homes and visitors, and outdoor amplified music generally has to stop by 10 pm under the noise rules unless a specific permission applies. Plan the sangeet and the dancing to start early and move the late part of the evening into the Grand Ballroom if the hotel allows. Agree the finishing time in writing.
Who the Savoy suits
It suits a hill-station destination wedding of 150 to 300 guests that wants heritage, lawns and a ballroom fallback, within reach of Delhi by air or road. It is less suited to a wedding that depends on guests arriving and leaving the same day, or to a monsoon date.
Questions to ask the hotel
- What is the seated dinner capacity of each lawn and the Grand Ballroom with a stage?
- What is the per-plate rate for each function, including taxes?
- How are guests dropped at the hotel given Mall Road access limits?
- What is the rain and cold plan for lawn functions?
- Which decorators are allowed, and what are the setup hours?
What sits outside the quote
- GST and service charge, if not included.
- The bar and premium beverages.
- Decor transport and setup from Dehradun or Delhi.
- Overflow rooms and transfers on hill roads.
- Heaters and covered structures for cold or wet weather.

Directories list 80 rooms, which house about 150 guests at double occupancy.
How many guests can the Savoy Mussoorie host?
Its lawns are listed for up to 1,000 and the Grand Ballroom for up to 500. A seated dinner fits fewer.

By flying or taking the train to Dehradun, then driving up to Mussoorie, usually an hour and a half to two hours from the airport.

October to mid-December and March to June. Avoid the July to September monsoon, when landslides can block the road.
