Krabi suits Indian weddings of up to about 230 guests who want limestone cliffs rather than a busy resort strip. Sofitel Krabi Phokeethra publishes the largest seated space of the resorts we checked, 230 at round tables, with 276 rooms. There are no direct flights from India, so guests connect through Bangkok or fly to Phuket and drive. The dry season runs from November to April.
Krabi gives a wedding the scenery Thailand is famous for: limestone karsts rising out of the sea, quiet bays and islands on the horizon. It is also smaller and less developed than Phuket, which is exactly why some couples prefer it and why it needs more careful planning. This guide covers how guests get there, the weather, what the leading resorts can seat, and the wedding sizes Krabi handles well.
For budgets across Thailand, see our Thailand wedding cost guide.
Why couples choose Krabi
- The landscape. Karst cliffs, sea stacks and islands make for photographs no ballroom can match.
- A quieter feel. Resorts are spread out, and the atmosphere is calmer than Phuket’s busier beaches.
- Secluded properties. Some of Krabi’s best-known resorts sit on bays reached mainly by boat, which appeals to couples who want privacy.
Getting there
There are no direct flights from India to Krabi. Guests have two practical routes.
| Route | How it works | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Via Bangkok | Fly to Bangkok, then a domestic flight to Krabi International Airport | Guests from cities without Phuket flights |
| Via Phuket | Fly direct to Phuket from Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru or Hyderabad, then a road transfer of roughly three hours | Groups who want a single flight and a coach |
| Boat-access resorts | A short boat ride from the mainland pier | Plan luggage, outfits and elderly guests carefully |
Visa and arrival-card rules are the same as for the rest of Thailand, and they changed in September 2026; see our guide to marrying legally in Thailand for the current rules.
When to marry in Krabi
Krabi is on the Andaman coast and shares Phuket’s pattern. November to April is dry with calm seas, which matters doubly in Krabi because boat transfers and island photographs depend on the water. May to October brings the monsoon, rougher seas and more frequent boat disruptions.
| Months | Conditions | For a wedding |
|---|---|---|
| November to April | Dry, calm sea | The reliable window for beach functions and boat transfers |
| May to October | Monsoon, rougher sea | Avoid boat-access venues; keep functions indoors |
What Krabi resorts can seat
Figures come from each resort’s published event chart on Cvent, checked in September 2026. “Seated” means guests at round tables.
| Resort | Largest seated space | Seated at rounds | Standing maximum | Guest rooms |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sofitel Krabi Phokeethra Golf and Spa Resort | Phokeethra Grand Ballroom | 230 | 250 | 276 |
| Phulay Bay, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve | Thung Fah | 60 | 70 | 54 |
We also checked several other well-known Krabi resorts, including Rayavadee, Banyan Tree Krabi, Dusit Thani Krabi and Centara Grand Krabi. Their published charts are incomplete, list fewer spaces than the resort says it has, or report implausible room counts, so we have not repeated their figures. Their outdoor lawns and beaches may seat more than any chart shows; ask each resort directly for a seated figure for the space you want.
Reading the numbers
- Sofitel Phokeethra is the only large indoor option among the resorts with complete charts, and its 276 rooms comfortably cover a 230-guest wedding.
- Phulay Bay is an intimate estate. Its indoor space seats 60, with 54 rooms, a natural fit for a small, luxurious wedding.
- Above 230 seated, Krabi becomes difficult, and Phuket’s larger resorts are usually the better choice.
Wedding sizes that suit Krabi
| Guests | Approach |
|---|---|
| Up to 60 | A luxury estate such as Phulay Bay, taken for the weekend |
| 60 to 150 | A beachfront resort with lawn functions and an indoor backup |
| 150 to 230 | Sofitel Krabi Phokeethra, which can host every function indoors if needed |
| Over 230 | Consider Phuket, where resorts chart up to 350 seated |

We will check whether your guest list, travel plan and dates suit Krabi, and plan the boats, coaches and backups around the weather.
Things that are different in Krabi
- Protected coastline. Much of Krabi’s coast and islands fall within national parks, where ceremonies, structures and drones may need permission. Ask the resort which areas it can use and what it can arrange.
- Boat logistics. For boat-access venues, plan how outfits, decor, musicians and elderly guests will travel, and what happens if the sea is rough.
- Distances. Resorts are spread out, so a wedding split across two properties needs more transport than in Phuket.
- Supplies. Large decor and equipment may come from Phuket or Bangkok, which adds cost and lead time.
What a Krabi wedding costs
Use the ranges in our Thailand cost guide. Krabi’s resort rates are broadly similar to other Andaman beach destinations at the same tier, but transport, boat transfers and supplies brought in from elsewhere can add to the total. Thai hotel quotes are usually shown before service charge and VAT.
When you compare Krabi quotes, ask each resort to price the same things: the event spaces for every function, the room block for the full stay, boat and road transfers, outside catering fees and any park or permit costs. Krabi quotes often leave transport out, and it is the line that most often surprises families.
Running the functions
| Function | Krabi setting | Check |
|---|---|---|
| Haldi and mehendi | Lawns and pool decks | Shade and turmeric rules |
| Sangeet | An indoor ballroom or covered pavilion | Sound limits at a quiet resort |
| Pheras | A beach or lawn facing the karsts | Fire permission and whether the beach is in a park area |
| Reception | The largest seated room | Seated figure, not standing |
A three-day Krabi plan
| Day | Daytime | Evening |
|---|---|---|
| Arrival | Flights to Phuket or Krabi, transfers to the resort | Welcome dinner |
| Day two | Haldi and a private boat trip for close family | Mehendi and sangeet |
| Day three | Pheras at golden hour facing the cliffs | Reception |

Krabi’s areas
| Area | Character | For a wedding |
|---|---|---|
| Ao Nang | The main beach town, with restaurants and boat departures | Convenient overflow rooms and easy evenings for guests |
| Railay and Phra Nang | Cliff-lined beaches reached by boat | Dramatic, but boat logistics shape every function |
| Klong Muang and Tubkaek | Quieter coast north-west of Ao Nang | Larger resorts and private estates with room to spread out |
| Koh Lanta | An island to the south, reached by road and ferry | Relaxed, small weddings with longer transfers |
A boat plan, if your venue needs one
| Question | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| How many boats, and how many guests each? | Sets how long it takes to move everyone |
| How do outfits and jewellery travel? | Keep them dry and with a named person |
| How do elderly guests board? | Some piers and beaches involve wading or steps |
| What is the rough-sea plan? | A fallback venue on the mainland, agreed in advance |
| What time is the last boat? | It decides when the reception has to finish for guests staying elsewhere |
What guests can do
Krabi is a natural place for guests to explore between functions. Island-hopping trips from Ao Nang, day trips towards the Phi Phi islands, the climb to Tiger Cave Temple and the Emerald Pool inland are all popular. Offer a group outing on the free day, schedule it for the morning when the sea is usually calmer, and keep the afternoon clear before the evening functions.
Combining Krabi with Phuket
Some families hold the larger functions in Phuket and move close family to Krabi for the ceremony, or the other way round. The road transfer of roughly three hours makes this possible, but it adds a travel day. It works best when the Krabi part is small and the guests who make the journey are the ones who will value the setting most. Our Phuket guide covers the larger venues.
Photographs in Krabi
Krabi is one of the most photogenic places in Thailand, and many of its best views are best reached by boat: the cliffs of Railay and Phra Nang, the sea stacks off Ao Nang and the islands beyond. Plan a portrait session by longtail boat in the calm early morning, and check whether a location sits inside a national park, where professional shoots and drones may need permission. On land, the viewpoints above Ao Nang give wide views of the coast at sunset.
Questions to ask a Krabi resort
| Ask the resort | Why it matters here |
|---|---|
| Is the ceremony beach inside a national park area? | Park beaches can need permission for events and structures |
| What seated figure do you publish for your lawn or beach? | Several Krabi resorts publish incomplete charts |
| How do guests, luggage and decor reach the resort? | Boat access changes every timing |
| What is the plan if the sea is too rough? | A mainland fallback must be agreed in advance |
| Where do outside vendors and suppliers come from? | Large decor may travel from Phuket or Bangkok |
| Which nearby resort can take our overflow guests? | Most Krabi resorts cannot sleep a large wedding alone |
Indian food in Krabi
Krabi has fewer Indian kitchens than Phuket or Bangkok, so food needs more planning. Ask each resort whether its chefs cook Indian menus regularly, whether an outside caterer may work on site, and where ingredients will come from. For a wedding of any size, many families bring in an Indian caterer from Phuket or Bangkok for the main functions and let the resort handle breakfasts and lighter meals. Confirm how Jain and pure vegetarian food will be kept separate, and whether the resort charges a fee for outside catering.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are there direct flights from India to Krabi?
No. Guests connect through Bangkok to Krabi International Airport, or fly direct to Phuket and transfer by road, which takes roughly three hours.
How many guests can a Krabi wedding host?
Among resorts with complete published charts, Sofitel Krabi Phokeethra seats 230 at round tables and has 276 rooms. Krabi suits weddings of up to about 230; larger weddings fit better in Phuket.
When is the best time for a Krabi wedding?
November to April, when the Andaman sea is calm and dry weather makes beach functions and boat transfers reliable. May to October is monsoon season.
Can we get married on a Krabi beach?
Many resorts host beach ceremonies, but parts of Krabi’s coast lie within national parks where events may need permission. Ask the resort which beaches it can use.
Is Krabi cheaper than Phuket for a wedding?
Resort rates are broadly similar at the same tier. Krabi can cost more to run because of transfers, boats and supplies brought in from Phuket or Bangkok.
