international airport, which is a combination almost no other Indian heritage market
offers. The inventory splits between Wadiyar-era heritage properties and modern five-stars,
and most weddings use both.

Getting your guests to Mysore

The travel picture is the quiet advantage of a Mysore wedding, particularly for an NRI
guest list that would otherwise face a second domestic flight.

• By air. Bengaluru is the practical arrival airport for everyone,
  roughly a three-hour drive away, and it takes long-haul arrivals directly. Mysuru’s own
  airport carries limited services, so plan on Bengaluru and treat anything else as a
  bonus.
• By road. The Bengaluru to Mysuru expressway has made the transfer
  predictable in a way it was not a few years ago, which matters when you are moving a whole
  guest list on a schedule. Coaches from the airport, staged by arrival time rather than by
  family, are the least painful way to run it.
• By rail. Mysuru Junction is well connected to Bengaluru and is a
  genuinely comfortable option for guests already in the region, and worth offering
  alongside the road transfer.
• The muhurtham problem. South Indian weddings run to a precise and
  often very early muhurtham, which means guests need to be in Mysore the night before, not
  travelling on the morning. Build the room block around the ceremony time rather than around
  the reception, which is the mistake families most often make here.

When to marry in Mysore, and the one date to check first

Mysore’s climate is kinder than the North Indian heritage markets and the wedding window
is correspondingly longer, with the monsoon months from roughly June to September the main
period to plan around for anything outdoor.

The date to check before anything else is Dasara. Mysuru’s Dasara celebrations are among
the largest in the country, they run for ten days around September or October depending on
the year, and they take over the city: hotel inventory, road access around the palace, and
vendor availability all go at once. A wedding scheduled into that window is competing with a
festival that draws visitors from across India, and the answer is almost always to move the
date rather than to plan around it. Confirm the year’s dates before you shortlist a
venue.

The other timing constraint is the muhurtham. South Indian ceremonies run to an
astrologically fixed and often pre-dawn time, which decides the whole schedule: the guest
transfer, the room block, and how late the previous evening’s function can run. Fix the
muhurtham with the family priest first, then work the rest of the wedding backwards from
it.
