A wedding at Laxmi Niwas Palace in Bikaner runs roughly Rs 35 lakh to Rs 1.1 crore for 250 to 400 guests across two days. It is a genuine Maharaja’s palace at roughly half what comparable heritage costs in Jaipur or Udaipur, and the 58-room inventory rather than the lawns is what caps your guest list.

The short answer

Budget Rs 35 lakh to Rs 1.1 crore for a two-day wedding with 250 to 400 guests, depending heavily on how many guests you house on the property and how much production you build.

That is a wide band, and the reason is that Laxmi Niwas is unusually flexible. The same palace hosts a 150-guest intimate wedding that stays inside Rs 35 lakh and a 1,000-guest affair that clears Rs 1.5 crore, because the lawns are enormous and the room block is not. Where you land depends almost entirely on how many nights you are paying for.

For context, a comparable heritage wedding at Samode Palace near Jaipur or Taj Hari Mahal in Jodhpur typically starts meaningfully higher. Bikaner’s pricing is the single strongest argument for considering it.

Where the money goes

Venue and lawn hireRs 4 lakh to 12 lakhVaries by which lawns and halls you take and for how many days
Food and beverageRs 12 lakh to 40 lakhPer plate quoted between Rs 1,900 and Rs 3,000 depending on menu
Decor and productionRs 8 lakh to 30 lakhThe palace needs less decor than a modern venue, which is a real saving

Photography and filmRs 5 lakh to 15 lakhMost crews travel from Jaipur or Delhi

Published per-plate figures disagree, and it is worth knowing the spread before you negotiate. One directory lists vegetarian from Rs 2,500 and non-vegetarian from Rs 3,000. Another puts both at around Rs 1,900. Treat Rs 1,900 as the floor for a simple menu and Rs 3,000 as realistic for a full wedding menu with live counters. Our per-plate guide covers how these rates are built.

Payment terms here are more structured than at many heritage properties: roughly 40 percent of the booking amount upfront with the balance due seven days before the event. Budget for that timing, because it lands in the same week as most vendor final payments.

58 rooms, and why that is the real constraint

The palace has 58 rooms. At double occupancy that houses around 116 guests on site.

Meanwhile the lawns are quoted as holding anywhere from 50 to 3,000 guests, with one directory claiming up to 4,500. Those two numbers describe completely different weddings, and the gap between them is the single most important thing to understand about this venue.

What it means practically: Laxmi Niwas can seat a very large wedding and can sleep only a small one. If your guest list is 400 and you want everyone on the property, this is not your venue. If your guest list is 400 and most of them are local or staying in Bikaner city hotels, it works extremely well and the lawns will not feel crowded.

This is the reverse of the usual Rajasthan problem. At Oberoi Udaivilas or a lake palace, small room counts come with small event spaces. Here you get palace-scale grounds with boutique-scale accommodation, which is genuinely useful if you plan around it and expensive to discover late.

The property itself

Laxmi Niwas was built by Maharaja Ganga Singh, the ruler who did more to modernise Bikaner than anyone, and it sits on the Lallgarh campus alongside the larger Lallgarh Palace. The architecture is Indo-Saracenic in red and pink sandstone, and the carving on the facades is the reason photographers like it: the detail holds up in close shots in a way that plain heritage walls do not.

It is a member of Historic Hotels Worldwide, which is a reasonable third-party signal that the heritage is genuine rather than themed. The grounds are large and properly maintained, with lawns and gardens that carry a big function without needing structures built over them.

The practical consequence for your budget is that the decor line runs lower here than at a modern five-star. A sandstone courtyard at dusk needs lighting and flowers, not a built set. Families who over-decorate a palace usually end up hiding the reason they chose it.

Bikaner as a wedding destination

Bikaner is the least-known of Rajasthan’s palace cities and that is precisely its advantage. Dates that are impossible in Udaipur are available here, and at a fraction of the price.

The trade is access. Bikaner has no significant commercial airport, so guests fly to Jaipur and drive roughly five to six hours, or to Jodhpur and drive about four and a half. There is a reasonable overnight train from Delhi. None of that is prohibitive, but it means your guest list needs to be genuinely committed, and attendance will be lower than for a wedding in Jaipur.

For a full picture of the city, our Bikaner wedding cost guide covers venues, vendors and logistics, and the Rajasthan palace venue guide places it against the alternatives.

Season and timing

Bikaner sits in the Thar desert and the seasonal swing is severe, more so than in Udaipur or Jaipur.

October to March is the wedding window, and within it November to February is genuinely pleasant by day and cold at night. Desert nights drop further than families expect, and an outdoor reception in January without heating will empty early. Budget patio heaters for every evening function and say so on the invitation, because guests packing for Rajasthan pack for daytime.

April through September is hot to the point of being unusable for a daytime function, with peak summer regularly above 45 degrees. The discount available in those months is real and so is the reason for it.

Because Bikaner is less contested, six to nine months of lead time is usually enough even for a good date, against ten to twelve in Udaipur. Our wedding season guide sets out the national calendar.

How it compares

Against the other Rajasthan heritage options, Laxmi Niwas occupies a specific and useful position.

  • Versus Gajner Palace, its nearest neighbour: Laxmi Niwas is in the city and easier to reach, Gajner is lakeside, more atmospheric and about 30 kilometres out. Gajner has larger lawns and more rooms.
  • Versus Alsisar Mahal or Chomu Palace, the Shekhawati heritage properties: comparable pricing, but those are closer to Jaipur and therefore easier for guests.
  • Versus Khimsar Fort: similar remoteness and similar heritage quality, with Khimsar closer to Jodhpur.
  • Versus Jaipur or Udaipur palaces: roughly half the cost for comparable heritage, at the price of a harder journey and a less famous backdrop.

If your priority is genuine heritage on a budget that will not stretch to Rambagh, this is one of the strongest options in the state. If your priority is guests actually turning up, weigh the travel carefully.

What to settle before signing

Settle where guests beyond the first 116 will sleep, and who is booking those rooms. Bikaner city has adequate hotels but not a deep luxury market, and a block of 80 rooms across three properties needs organising months ahead rather than in the final weeks.

Settle which lawns and halls the quote includes and for how many days. With grounds this large, a quote for one lawn and a quote for the full property are very different products, and the words used to describe them are often the same.

Settle whether outside caterers are permitted. Heritage palaces vary and the answer changes your per-plate floor completely.

Settle the payment schedule in writing, given the 40 percent upfront and balance seven days prior structure. Confirm what happens if the guest count moves between signing and that final payment.

Settle taxes separately, because every figure above is pre-tax and GST on rooms and banqueting is a line in its own right. Our wedding budget guide covers the full build-up, and if you want this costed against your real list, send us the details.

Running a multi-day wedding here

The palace suits a two or three day format better than a single evening, because the grounds give you distinct settings and the city gives your guests something to do between functions.

Use the courtyards and the sandstone facades for the daytime functions, where the carving photographs well in hard light, and keep the lawns for the evening events where lighting does the work. Families who run everything on one lawn end up with three sets of photographs that look identical, which is a waste of a property like this.

Bikaner itself is a genuine asset for the gaps in the schedule. Junagarh Fort is one of the few major Rajasthan forts never taken by an invading army and is fifteen minutes away. The camel breeding farm on the city outskirts is an unusual outing that guests remember, and the old city’s havelis and sweet shops fill an afternoon. Programme one of these rather than leaving a blank day, because guests who have driven five hours want to have seen something.

One scheduling note specific to the desert. Daytime functions in November and December are comfortable from mid-morning, but the light goes early and the temperature drops fast after sunset. A haldi that starts at four runs into cold by six. Start daytime functions earlier than you would in Delhi or Mumbai and your schedule will hold.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a wedding at Laxmi Niwas Palace Bikaner cost?

Roughly Rs 35 lakh to Rs 1.1 crore for 250 to 400 guests over two days. The range is wide because the palace has very large lawns and only 58 rooms, so your total depends mainly on how many guests you house on site and how much production you build.

How many rooms does Laxmi Niwas Palace have?

58 rooms, which houses around 116 guests at double occupancy. This is the practical limit on an on-site wedding, even though the lawns are quoted as holding several hundred to several thousand guests.

What is the per plate cost at Laxmi Niwas Palace?

Published figures disagree. One directory lists vegetarian from Rs 2,500 and non-vegetarian from Rs 3,000, another puts both around Rs 1,900. Treat Rs 1,900 as a floor for a simple menu and Rs 3,000 as realistic for a full wedding menu with live counters.

How do guests get to Bikaner?

There is no significant commercial airport. Most guests fly to Jaipur and drive five to six hours, or to Jodhpur and drive around four and a half. There is an overnight train from Delhi. Expect lower attendance than for a wedding in Jaipur or Udaipur.

Is Bikaner cheaper than Jaipur or Udaipur for a wedding?

Yes, substantially. Comparable heritage typically costs around half, and peak dates are far easier to secure because the city is much less contested. The trade is travel time for guests and a less recognised backdrop.

How far ahead should we book?

Six to nine months is usually enough even for a good peak-season date, against ten to twelve months in Udaipur. Bikaner’s lower demand is one of its genuine practical advantages.

Do we need heating for evening functions?

Between November and February, yes. Bikaner is in the Thar desert and nights get considerably colder than daytime temperatures suggest. An unheated outdoor reception in January will empty well before it should.

Can we bring our own caterer or decorator?

Ask before signing, because heritage palaces vary and the answer sets your per-plate floor. Where outside catering is permitted, the local Bikaner cost base makes it meaningfully cheaper than an in-house rate. Where it is not, the published Rs 1,900 to Rs 3,000 range becomes your starting point rather than an opening position.

Is Laxmi Niwas the same as Lallgarh Palace?

They are separate buildings on the same Lallgarh campus, both operating as heritage hotels and often quoted together. Laxmi Niwas is the smaller and more ornate of the two. Confirm which building your event spaces and rooms are actually in, because quotes sometimes move between them.
