Where the money goes

Two separate venue directories list the per-plate at Rs 3,500 and a per-event rental in the region of Rs 3.5 to 5 lakh. A broader guide gives a catering band of Rs 2,500 to 6,000 per plate across all functions, which is the more realistic way to think about it once you count a mehendi lunch, a sangeet dinner and a reception rather than one meal.

That single number is why families choose this venue. Udaipur is full of beautiful properties that sleep 40 or 90, which is fine for an intimate wedding and impossible for a large one. Once your list passes about 200, the city’s options narrow sharply, and a venue that can keep almost everyone on one site becomes worth a premium in itself.

The saving is not obvious until you price the alternative. Splitting 280 guests across two hotels means duplicated welcome desks, coaches for every function, a second point of contact for every problem, and a wedding that quietly feels like two events. The transport and coordination cost of that easily reaches the difference between this venue and a cheaper one.

Fateh Sagar, and what the location gives you

Taj Aravali is the closest comparison on scale and sits above this on price. Radisson Blu Udaipur is the nearest direct competitor and generally comes in lower. Ananta Udaipur handles scale but is well outside the city. Aurika Udaipur is newer and priced similarly.

What separates them at this level is rarely the ballroom. It is the room count, the drive time from the airport, and whether the property will genuinely give you exclusivity. Ask all three questions in the first meeting and the shortlist usually resolves itself.

The shoulder weeks of late September, March and April are pleasant, considerably cheaper, and much easier to book. On a budget of a crore and a half, moving off peak saves more than any negotiation will achieve.

Settle the room release date. On a 140-room block held for two nights, a twenty per cent no-show is a very large number, and unclaimed rooms in a held block are generally still payable.
